One of the cons of owning a truck seems to be that now some think you can help them move something. Can't count how many times I get asked even by people I barely know. A couch here, a fridge there.......wtf......lol. So not only do you transport it but also you gotta help carry it.

    Ok rant off.....lol.

And, how much do you charge them dor your time, gas, and equipment usage?

If the answer is nothing, then it's your fault for being a pushover.

All the people that get use of me/my truck provide friendly services to me.

I do not have any problem helping someone move. they just need to rent a truck. The easiest way to get your truck all scratched up is to let other people throw there crap in it.

I think this is an "Age" thing. I could be wrong but this stuff happened to me in my teens and early 20's. In my 30's now and I have zero friends that would ask to use anything of mine. They own their own trucks and own tools and own houses so if anything they just ask for an extra pair of hand sfrom time to time.

Put on a topper or tonneau cover, and tell them their crap won't fit.
    Problem solved.

People's attitude has changed a lot, they don't care if your truck gets scratched or whatever, they say it's just a truck. Forget about them offering anything for your time or let alone gas.

then you need to find some new friends. It's all about the people you put yourself around. My friends at least by me food. Which I am all for. Most of my close buddies I would do it for free. But I at least get pizza out of the deal.

Surround yourself with good people. Family doesn't have to be in your life either. Haven't talked to my parents in 10 years. They are garbage. No reason to mess with them. Just because they gave birth to me, doesn't mean they belong in my life.

This is why you always leave a couple greasy, cast iron engine blocks in there. "Sure but you will have to unload it first - I have a bad back" is magic for having them borrow someone else's truck :)

I wish this was true for me. I'm in my 30s and have friends, family, and neighbors asking me to help them haul or move things on a fairly consistent basis, especially during the summer months. It's hard to say no because I don't want to be that guy, but I often find myself having to explain that my short bed Tacoma is not a 3500 diesel; a concept that most non-truck owners seem to have trouble grasping.

"Oh, awesome, you have a truck! Can you pick up six yards of mulch for me on Saturday?" Yeah, sure, just let me get my dump truck out of storage.

This for sure. I don't think people realize how easy it is to rent from uhaul. Before I got my truck, I'd just rent a f-150 for $30 each time.

I think you can rent trucks from home Depot now for $15 an hour. Need mulch or lumber, rent a truck for $15, load it up and go. Have a couch to pick up, rent a truck for an hour
