After doing a bunch of research, I decided to give this "custom" clutch set up a shot. It's OEM parts but uses a pressure plate from a 5vz. The stock 5vz plate it supposed to have a higher clamping force than the 3rz plate. So I'm using it with a 3rz disk, TO and pilot bearing.
Much of my info I got from Kurt and his build on CT

Will do for sure. I'll hVe to break it in for about 500 miles before I can rip on it

I finished getting everything disassembled yesterday. Trans was a butch to get off. Had to shake the eff out of it to get it loose but it's finally off. I'm going to replace the rear mAin while it apart. I just need to figure out how to swap the seal out of the housing

look at the replacement. should get a better idea as to how it goes on. from the picture looks like it might pop out from this side (push from other side)

Nice observation. I just used a screwdriver and rubber mallet from the inner side and popped it right out. Looks like the new one should pop right in. Hopefully I can get some reassembly going on later tonight

I pieced it together. I got the pressure plate from Amazon and everything else from Rockauto...disk, bearings, alignment tool, flywheel. Was around $200 total I think. A lot less than most performance clutch kits and should hold the amount of hp & tq my truck is making. I've read that the stock 5vz clutch is usually good for 300-350

Nice, i love finds like that. 200 is very reasonable for a decent clutch kit.

For anyone that cares, I used this write up to help with this clutch project.

The idea with the paper towels and the pilot bearing removal worked pretty cool. It did take a while and more paper towels than I expected. I jammed almost 3 paper towels in that tiny little hole by the time I was finished removing the bearing.

I've been working on the truck here and there when I have a little time. Getting close to being back on the road again.

Got the new rear main seal installed

Will do. From what I read its supposed to really smoothen out the shift throw. After looking at the old one I removed, I can see why. The new bushing looks and feels like it will allow the shifter ball to glide slide around much easier than with the old rubber-ish one as well as just holding it place much more tightly. Mine was pretty tore up but seemed to not be as bad as some other reviews I came across online. Many people have said their old one was disintegrated into pieces.

Their only about $11, but if you're not ordering other stuff at the same time, shipping doubles it. They're also sold by lowrange and LCE as well if you happen to be ordering parts from one of them at the same time

yea that's the only reason i hadn't bought it yet lol. a $10 part is like 20+ after shipping. ill wait until its completely and utterly FUBAR or i get the funds to follow suit with the clutch job. im not trying to be in there more then once. you are doing it right. rear main, new flywheel, TO, PP, disk and going 1 step further with the shirt shifter/bushing

this build is one of the best on here.

Good info. I need to do a new clutch soon. I'll get a new rear main too. You need to drop the oil pan for the rear main? Clutch is about the only area I never touched on my truck yet.
