Hey guys I am getting ready to rebuild my R150F transmission in my 2000 Tacoma 3.4L V6 4x4. Mine got hungry and ate a synchro. In the process I plan to replace all bearings and synchros. The local dealer wants near $900 for the parts. 1 bearing he is not sure he can get. Online vendors are coming in at around $800. I found a website called amayama.com that I can order all parts from that is cheap. All the parts are Toyota brand. My concern is the parts are coming from Japan. Is there any import duties? Ordering all the parts from them costs $440 which is much cheaper than 8-900. Any experience or tips here please chime in.

i just got off the phone with Anaheim Gear, a transmission rebuilder I use at my auto parts store. they sell a rebuild kit for about 600 dollars, all parts come from toyota. they also do have used good condition gears if you need as well. he was saying though, that if you want, you can just replace the syncros that are bad for really cheap and can get them from the dealer. that may be a better route.

Thanks for the info. I will tear it down Saturday and see what I've got then go from there. Honestly I would like to replace all the bearings just for piece of mind. Transmission was solid just the synchro started dragging. Drained oil and found brass chips in it.

Did you ask why Marlin doesn't sell a kit for your truck? I've wondered that in the past.

I didn't ask didn't really get an answer but there is a difference in bearing sizes from earlier to later models.

Parts from local dealer for 10 bearings and 6 synchro sets was pushing $900 before tax. Was also told certain parts would be special order and no eta could be given. Ordered everything from Amayama for $440. Same exact Toyota parts. Shipping was around $100 so parts were closer to $340ish.

Just an update. 1 of my shipments arrived today. The parts I ordered were coming from different warehouses so it was shipped in 2 shipments. Order was literally triple packed and taped. Everything arrived in perfect shape. Parts are in Toyota packaging and appear to be Toyota parts. Once my other shipment arrives I will begin the rebuild.
