Uh, I'm pretty sure 'death wobble' isn't caused by leaf springs or link... Last I checked it's a combo of misalignment and most often track bar mounts or bushings failing...

A properly built rig, whether leaf sprung or linked shouldn't have 'death wobble' but to say it's only prevalent in one is a bit of a reach. It's common with any solid front setup.

But what do I know, I'm IFS..

 

Death wobble is commonly refer to leaf spring setup. It's caused by the alignment point and angle. That's why there's death wobble shackle. But I would agreed with you on this tho, regardless of leaf or link, it comes down to welding point and experience of the installer. Cause wobble can occur in both link and leaf.

Yes, I'd rode in more than many rig with leaf and link. From as far as I know, the person you know in sac probably piece his own link without experience, thus causing uncomfortable driving experience.

Same goes for leaf spring. I rode in many other leaf setup and rides horrible and other leaf rides great. It's the same for link. Ultimately it come hands down to who install the setup, leaf or link.

Did you do your own SA or have a shop install it? Probably a shop, I would assume, but I don't know you. If you did it yourself, you think it'll ride like how it is now, probably not...

I can sit here and install leaf spring setup as I done many times before... But i wouldn't try that on link... it's a completely different world

We can sit here all day and go back and forth why one is better than the other. One professional piece together while the other with no experience decides to save money and do it out of his garage... etc etc etc... That's the difference.. It's like, your taco is better than my old school truck, that debate will never end as well.

As mention, if your comparing two professionally built rig, one with leaf and other with link, link will handle far better than leaf off and on the road.

But I wouldn't sit here and make a false statement that link can not handle 75 and leaf can, completely false.

Hi Taco fans, been around on the forum for awhile, got a question for the taco veterans. Is there any shop around Fresno that compress coil over springs? So I want to add a leveling spacer kit to the coils I have but need to have it compress down and add the spacer. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

 

Go to Auto Zone and rent the coil spring compress clamp (tool)and do it yourself peace of cake 1 1/2 hrs you should be on your way to a higher ride and don't forget about the differential drop spacers too this is a must have to straighten the front cv axles if your is a 4x.
You have the options go with spacers with rougher ride or get a set of toytec lift kits for a good quality ride, it's your choices your dineros.
This beautiful belongs to a coworker with 3" toytec lifted w/o spacers on 32x22 tires

Nice limited edition DC your co worker got there but 32 tall tires in 22 inch rim? Idk about that, I would say nothing bigger than 17. Wouldn't you rather have more rubber than steel/aluminum if you're using the 4by offroad?

Either way, nice truck.

 

+1 I would agree. Nothing larger than 17 on off road truck unless it never see dirt, mud, or snow. Like those bling out domestic truck on dub wheels. Makes me laugh how often they wax on and wax off their truck and after each drive, spent 2 hours wiping it down like my old neighbor.

That's why I stick to 15 and drive a beat up first gen that a whole lot of spray paint won't turn me blind...

 

Don't rub much he had minor trims he don't off road much but hunt all year rounds

 

Who's tacoma is this that was done at ultimate offroad in 2014???

 

Oh dang truck looks familiar thanks for showing loved of the taco Ultimate Offroad did an ok job on the swapped thanks, some how I had to do the final correction to keep it running straight and smooth, driver side tire butterfly out knuckle not shimmed properly, left locking hub stay in lock position unable to unlock, passenger inner axle leak not installed properly,front tires wear uneven alignment issues, steering columns tilted to the left, master clutch cylinder leaks, backup lights unconnected and I had to redo all of the above not big of a deal to me but not impressed with the unprofessional work of the shop. It was a pain to reconnect the backup lights from an auto to manual tranny going through all the wires diagrams in both trannies looking for the right wires in the right selector switch positions it was harder than swapping the tranny but what do others know some people probably haven't done once in a life time

 

That $uck @ss... But it's how shop do business and make money... there's the different of, paying them to do the transmission swap alone to paying them to do the swap and electrical work on the transmission to your harness...

Got one question, why didn't you just do the SA & tranny swap yourself, especially if your got "kit c" which is merely complete from TG?

 

If you had the knuckle alignment tool to shim the knuckle yourself, had to take off passenger knuckle to redo inner seal, adjust the hysteer tre to straighten the steering wheel, redo the clutch master cylinder: should have just be a DIYer.

Should had just taken it back to the shop and have them check it out and let them explain.

 

Yes I took the truck back to the shop and the guy said he can replace the parts but I have to pay at least 4-5 hours of labors took away his time so I don't bother but drive away with huge disappointment and never look back

 

Yes kits c is a complete set for the front and I also bought the rear kits, both drive shafts, new clutch and MT ecu almost every parts are brand new but the MT. At that time none of the buddies have a welder and the guy barely open his shop I'm the 2nd person took in my truck. If it was now I'll do it myself and not have to spend close to 10g for such sloppy jobs.
Last year we did 2 4runners front solid-swapped you probably see them around Fresno and Clovis areas, 1990 v6 red runner and 1995 runner 4banger sky blue and this one was tranny tcase swapped from a chain drive to a Gears drive, with the rite tools, parts and enough research things become more possibilities it's up to the persons will to make it happen
