Duratrac vs KO2

I had both duratracs and ko2. i personally like the duratracs alittle better idk why it is but the duratrac feels better in the sand never got stuck with the duratracs. As for the ko2 I got stuck twice witch I was very surprise with. As for on road the ko2 was definitely Quiter other than that they both felt the same on road wise

 

I live in BC, we get snow in the interior, the KO2s are good tires. If you plan on doing 80 mph and drifting corners then maybe not the tire for you but I have not had any issues with them.

 

Has anyone had any experience with the General Grabber AT2s? My dad has them and he likes them a lot. They are a lot like the KO2s except they are a lot cheaper.

 

Bilstein 5100s @ 0" w/ OME 881# coils so just above stock. Tires are 265/75/R16

 

I know this thread is long resolved but it has been resurrected so I'll chime in anyway. I've used both on and off road, summer and winter. When you're trying to choose between KO2 and Duratracs..... I say either go all the way or don't go at all. Michelin LTX Defenders or Cooper ST Maxx. Every tire in between these two falls short of these tires in many regards. After owning both the MS2 and Cooper St Maxx.... those are the only 2 tires I would consider, unless I was looking for an ice tire (Blizzak, Nokian, X-Ice, etc).

 

I don't consider Duratracs a winter tire but they are snow rated. They have a nice coarse tread for off road with lots of depth when they're new. I run blizzaks in the snow belt of central Ontario Canada where I live. In the winter up here off road means a tow truck haha. Winter tires are best. Running two sets keeps my duratracs good for summer off roading.

 

I had these on my 2nd gen OR for years and loved them. They got me theough winters in the Adirondacks and couple of terrible blizzards in WNY. I just ordered a set for my 3rd gen. The price is not bad either.

 

Hey guys, ill make this short and sweet.

Currently running 275/75/17 bfg Ko's. There done and im debating between the K02's and duratracs.
Id debated going for the 285's but i dont really want to remove my mud flaps nor do a lot of trimming.
(5100 2.5 lift with aal - current set up)

Should i grab some duratracs in a 265 or go with the ko2's in a 275.
Im a sucker for the bigger look of the 275.. but live in a very snowy place, so i should probably get something more suited to fuction over looks.
Ive heard both tires are good in the snow, but some opinions would be greatly appreciated.

Never ran duratracs but I've heard they're a nightmare in wet conditions

 

I haven't had any issues with my duratracs in wet conditions, although I drive pretty mildly so who knows. I haven't had a chance to run them in snow yet, but I've heard they're one of the best for it.

 

Good to know. My knowledge was only reading reviews or talking to others so not first hand. I like the look of the duratracs for sure though

 

I ran Duratracs in 265/75R16. They were 60% wear at 40,000 miles with religious rotatation. Moderate noise comparable to an aggressive A/T tire. I assume louder than KO2 of even bigger size. However, at 40,000 miles you will hear a loud hum with the windows down. In the snow... let's just say when DC had snow days, I would drive AHEAD of the snow plows on the interstate for fun... right to the few Irish pubs that were open. I'm not saying anything about the Irish except I really, really, really like them especially on snow days. Oh yeah, I didn't 'need' to put the truck in 4WD to keep traction with these tires. They were fine in 2WD . In the rain... give DOUBLE the braking distance because you will NOT stop on a dime. Possible to sipe them for better rain traction, I suppose. Had the old BFG A/Ts on my '97 Jeep. I got stuck (in deep mud) so many times that I won't even try the new ones. If I had today's Duratracs on that Jeep, I would have made it out.

P.S. Currently, running Cooper STT Max which are milder than Duratracs and have better wet/dry/on-road characteristics but not quite as good as Duratracs. I think my current Coopers are more evenly matched with the KO2s across the board. Considering General Grabber X3 for the next set.

 

My duratracs kick every jeeps ass that has ko2's and I have a four cylinder and no lift. Duratracs will outperform ko2's in almost every terrain off-road. However I believe the duratracs have weaker side walls and are more prone to puncture compared to the ko2's.

I have put them thru a lot of shit as well as the wife and she drives things hard and they have always done me right. I have not been stuck with them but then again im not a novice driver in the dirt, rocks, snow, sand ,mud and rain not to much slipping. 51,and some change miles on them and still got little left. Balancing and rotation is a must!

Also, I ran 2 sets of KO2s on my old Mazda truck. They performed well for the first winter, but once slightly worn, they seemed to turn into slicks very easily.

 

Duratracs in snow are the shit. Granted I live in Utah where we do not have ice and the snow we do get is not wet so it is never that wet sloppy stuff but rather the dry fluff. Idk if that makes a difference but I think they do a great job. On my second set now, around the 40,xxx mark they do get pretty damn loud though however the new ones I just put on are super quiet. Also they kill it on dirt, sand, and rocks. Never had an issue with them.

 

Of the two you are deciding between, I chose the Duratrac and I've been happy with them but will be replacing this fall after nearly 40k miles. They still have decent tread but I want fresh tires for the winter.

What about a Cooper st maxx in 255/80/17?

 

I had Toto at'2 and I went to KBROZ's2
Because of sidewall issues.
Been thru some good shit that made me say wtf and they took it with smiles and no gouge or chunks, rips etc.
I've seen a couple knife looking marks because I think the girl spitting dirt and still stand strong.
