A friend of mine owns a Titan, wishes everyday he bought a Tacoma.

Cummings Engine is good but get ready for a ton of maintenance and issues with DFPs and such.

How is the bed useless? Doesn't it allow 4x8 sheets to lie flat? That alone makes it in fact seem far more useful than my Tacoma bed.

I was worried about this when I bought my Tacoma but I just cut some 2x6's and easy fit 4x8 plywood and such.

Exactly you own a sb, for us dclb or ac owners it's a useless bed. If you own a sb it's the same so I get what your saying there. But from a truck aspect both ridgeline and Tacoma shortbeds are a joke.

I understand from a wheeling standpoint the shorter wheelbase benefit with the taco, but the ridgeline isn't really an off-road truck so double whammy.

I did the same thing but it didn't work. The slots for the two 2x6 are too far forward. When loading a 4x8 sheet of plywood, it flips back towards the tailgate due to no support in the back half of the bed. How could this be an oversight by Toyota? Am I now going to have to keep a block of wood or some other jerry-rigging device in my bed to carry 4x8 sheets???

My only thing is how bad your gonna take a hit when you trade it in, I just talked to a manager at Toyota that said they have not seen the new 3rd gens hold good value like previous gens. I don't know how true this is but I would look at seeing what the damage is first and see if it makes sense. I'm sure this is differnt depending on location but if your gonna lose 4-6k to trade it in than it might be worth keeping and seeing if they will find a solution soon. Just a thought

    Gents,

Thank you all for your input. Some solid points made. I have a buyer lined up to purchase my truck, so I won't take a hit on the trade.

I've read a lot of good reviews both on the web and the Titan XD forum. People are experiencing some issues with the truck but that is to be expected, as long as the issues are not systemic like the Taco's transmission/shifting. I am leaning more and more towards the Titan. I won't be able to purchase it until this weekend if I decide to pull the trigger. If I do pick it up, I'll post some pics.

    Thanks again for your input.

Where? I can count on 2 hands how many I've seen on the road since launch. I also know that a lot more are delivered to the dealers than are actually sold.

You are probably right. I think it has a little to do with advertising. I have been doing research for a few weeks on what to buy to replace the Taco. The big 3 kept coming up in my searches and were the only ones that came immediately to mind. I completely forgot about Nissan and didn't even know they had a new Titan XD. After discovering the truck and doing research on it, the more I learned it appears to be a decent truck. I think at the start it was way overpriced, with the rebates and incentives it might be a good deal.

well, if toyota, gm AND ford are real shit, maybe it's not a truck problem.

Personally I would wait for the Frontier diesel replacement. Even though the Tacoma has the highest resale, you're going to lose so much money on trading it in. But I'm sure that's common knowledge. In the end, its your money. Best of luck.

my terminal manager just bought a titan crew platinum loaded 60k sticker paid $45 last Saturday. He loves it. lies in Dallas. been averaging 16 mpg mostly city no towing. He is going to get travel trailer. I test drove one when new and glad I didn't get one because now 15k off. Id buy one now at 15k off they are nice. It drives comfortable but just too big for me and I don't want that big truck. Id rather midsized. At 15k off I think resale is going to be fine in 3 years

Just curious what the systemic issues the Silverado had (has?) are?

This was in 2014, but there was a list that f things that gm refused to acknowledge.

    Moving/shifting drivers seat
    Malfunctioning heated seats
    Missing lights/illumination in dash
Constant hard clunk in driveshaft when slowing down
    Condensation in taillights
Broken power sliding rear window, repaired by dealer but would constantly break
Rough engine idle with dramatic fluctuation in RPMs - front of truck would shimmy from the engine
Vibration/grinding in front when accelerating in 4wd

This was a first model year truck, a few issues would've been acceptable had gm addressed it properly. Their reply was literally "the truck operates as designed" and consistently delayed any type of fix or repair.

I say systemic because there were quite a few people who had the same issues and more on the chevy forum for the 2014 Silverado. Had gm addressed the issues in a different manner other than stonewalling it had potential to be a good truck.
