Hitachi Shocks on 2016 TRD Sports

So in your opinion With Shock is Better Hitachi or Bilstein ?

 

Anything aftermarket>factory bilstein "4600">hitachi. I got a pair of hitachi takeoffs in my basement i havent been able to give away. And ive been trying

I have the 17 sport and those Hitachi shocks are straight garbage.... I cant believe they said this thing is supposed to have a better street ride. I have so much body role at high speeds and the back end jerks around like a jackhammer on these LA roads... I switched the rears to the bilstein 5160 and the ride is much better. I cant wait to drop in the 6112 when they release them for the 3rd gen...

That being said. I think anything would be an improvement over those crap shocks. when I took them off you could depress them with no leverage... like clamping your hand with minimal pressure would get them to move. I had to lean on the 5160 to get it to move. I was basically riding on the leaf pack because these were so bad.

 

I need a rear pair of bilstein shocks for my Taco but the budget is low rigth now

 

people are selling their OR ones for like 100-200 for the set when they upgrade. look on craigslist

 

I believe that swapping the shocks will only resolve part ride and handling differences. The TRD Sport and OR also have different springs/coils and sway bars. Also, the tires and rims size (16 to 17 inch) will also change the ride quality. Maybe someone who actually swapped out shock could chime in and let us know if the ride firmness changed.

IDK. I read into the mumbo jumbo about the Hitachi shocks being crap so I replaced with Bilstein 6112/5160. I honestly think the Hitachi is a better street ride. Absorbs bumps better and less body roll.

There is nothing wrong with the Hitachi's. It is a good shock and they have been in the marketplace for many years. The issue is that people want a high end offroad shock vs the oem on the Sport. I have no issues with them while doing twisties in the mountains. The Sport 4x4 is supposed to market to a different clientele than the TRD OR.

 

For Wheeling, YES. For normal street commuting. They're great

Test drove a sport they ride like a wooden wagon. I hit a speed bump at 10 mph and felt like the truck was going to bounce off the road

 

Ya with my Bilsteins every time i go around a corner, I feel like the whole truck is gonna tip over. Never had that feeling with the Hitachi

 

Maybe you installed them wrong then... I have the 5160s and they are great.. Maybe something is off with your Alignment. Its should be a firm ride but smoother and better rebound as the shock is doing more work.

 

Maybe, I've always felt like the Hitachi had considerable less body roll and sway. The Bilsteins definitely absorb bumps better.

 

Not all Hitachi are crap.... Just specifically these ones for sure. If you havent taken them out and acutally held them in your hands then you dont really know what youre talking about. I have had koni yellows on my BMW and have done the shocks on several cars these hitachis feel like a blown shock that has 100k miles on it. There is NO resistance.

 

are you running a lift?

I had the dealership do my alignment and they did the worst job I have ever had. I had to take it to an alignment place and make them do it the way I wanted it done... now it drive so well...

Camber/tow at neutral.

no caster and make sure the tracking in the rear is spot on...

If you have the 6112 and the 5160 you should love your ride around town...
