    Greetings.

For anyone interested in the new Eclipse avn726e I thought I would post and give my impressions. In my old FJCruiser I had the eclipse avn6620. Granted it was a nice unit, the nav left something to be desired both in the way it looked and the way it functioned. The new nav is both pretty (has 3d and building view) and easy to use.

The iPod control is what you could expect. Same layout as your would find on the iPod itself but you touch the screen (obviously).

The sound is quite robust and has pretty good power from an installed unit. You don't have a TON of EQ flexibility but I was able to get it sounding the way I wanted.

More importantly, the use is VERY snappy. The screens load immediately from one screen to another as you use the device.

One other thing I thought I would post as this is a new unit and I had to track down some answers. This unit (unlike the 6620 and 5000 series from Eclipse) does not have a plug for the toyota steering wheel control harness so I made a call to Eclipse and they told me this.

pin 6 on the Toyota steering wheel harness (white with red stripe) goes to a ground.

pin 7 on the Toyota steering wheel harness (purple with white stripe) goes to the brown with black stripe wire on the Eclipse.

ping 8 on the Toyota steering wheel harness (yellow with blackish stripe) goes to the brown wire on the Eclipse

I also searched high and low for a harness for the Toyota steering wheel control but came up empty handed. I talked with DigiKey and looked through their 2900 (seriously) page manual and they had no match. I just decided to splice and solder in the wires. There is plenty of wire to work with on the OEM side so it will be really easy to "undo".

I hope someone finds this usefull.

You people and your obsession with pics :)

I got the new Metra dash kit and they made some improvements on it. It is textured very nicely and, more importantly, the trim piece connects to the Metra silver piece, rather than just laying on the radio and connection with that screw/molly (which they have done away with). They also made the black trim piece not as deep so it fits with no trimming (something that you had to do before).

A lift, some wheels, some tires, some performance, some cosmetic and then audio.
Yeah I am quite please with mine...just wish I can have my AudioControl Epic Four.1 installed somewhere...before I have a single din Alpine 7" IVA-D900 flip out in my 02 and the EQ was under that but now I have no room or idea where to put my EQ. Only option is custom mount it in the arm rest or glove box but I dunno.

BTW: pics are in my sig.

Do the factory connectors hook up directly to the back of the AVN726E? Or does one have to do re-wiring?

    Tks...

No they did not. The 5000s and 6000 series did. I figured it out though and just tapped into my factory wiring. Works well. No need for any resisters or anything.

Do you know if the 6000 series came with red control buttons?

That's too bad. I really would preffer red to match the vehicles red display. Looks like I will have to get the 726E and unistall the Blue Logic.

You will be happy with it. Its a great unit for the money.

Quite a bit better than the older ones. The NAV is top notch.

The 726E does have red buttons correct? Does the red match the red buttons on your Taco?

Oh yeah. Matches perfectly. I have mine red and have the background red. I also have the metra textured silver dash piece. It looks factory installed.

First of all, thanks for sharing the info; exactly what I was looking for. I installed mine on Saturday but I don't think mines working. I know you have to program the buttons in the steering wheel settings thing but mine just gets an error.

So to make sure I got this correct, I need to attache the wires for 7 and 8 appropriately and then wires 6 needs to be grounded out? Is that right?

Do you mean the steering wheel controls here or the actual factory radio wires?

I just bought this unit 15 minutes ago from sonic electronix, last one they had. It comes with a wiring harness for the factory radio plugs...

Yeah it comes with the wiring harness, and a discount on the metra face plate. It came with a scosche faceplate but I opted to change it out and go with the metra, they gave me the same deal. Just had to call and deal with them a little bit.

I ended up getting the faceplate for free and no harness. I think what they do is give you an "installation accessory" credit and you can use it on the faceplate or harness for whatever your car needs. Do you know which harness they gave you?

    yeah Scosche Model # TA02B / TA02

When did you buy from them. I went to go buy it last week and they were out of the 726e, then I looked yesterday and they had one in stock. I grabbed it since I think the model is being discontinued. I was so close to buying the Eclipse Single Din unit. So glad they had one of these left...I like the look of the Double Din so much better. I got a lot of upgrades still to do to the audio but one step at a time.
