I picked up my '17 Shelby GT350 in October. Six speed manual, and there's no automatic option. 526 HP and no forced induction either!

I feel more exclusive knowing we're 5%'ers. Anyone else wish the 5 speed was an option on the 3rd gen with the 3.5?

Have to admit, haven't spent much time behind the wheel of the '17 (bought it for my wife), just feels like extra shifting compared to the '06.

Hey folks, first time poster here as well as first time taco owner. M/T of course.

My local dealer salesman (an Iraqi) didn't even know what a m/t was when I went in looking to drive one. I said it many different ways--manual trans, standard, you know--one you have to shift etc and he never got it. Finally he said "let's go look"

I told him it would have 3 pedals and pointed out all of the trucks we looked at were autos. I ain't making this up, I swear. Ended up ordering one with no obligation to buy it and only to drive and consider it when it came in.

A month later I made a deal after driving it and they offered me a good price on my old 94 Ranger sight unseen. Closed the deal then left to get my old truck. When I arrived, the Iraqi salesman got in my truck then got out saying there was a problem with the key holding up a broken off key stub. He had broken it off in the ignition not knowing that my old truck had a button which had to be depressed to remove the key.

At this point the deal was made and I told the salesman "This is your truck now dude" and got out. Crazy stuff.

    Anyways, here's my dollar menu taco. 2017 2.7/5spd 4x4 m/t utility model.

Great truck Steve! 2.7 with the 5 speed gets it done.

Thanks duder. Couldn't pass on it being ~$12,000 less than any other 4x4 I've looked at. The 159HP 2.7 feels like a rocket compared to my old 95HP 2.3L Ford. I bought the Ford new in 1995. Hoping I have the tacoma for at least as long.

    Beautiful truck
    Congrats

Having regular dealings with the Middle East, and having lived there I am surprised to hear Iraqi person didn't know a standard transmission

I know. I'm baffled at it. I figured Iraq had more manual trans vehicles than auto. My gut feeling was to ask for someone else but didn't want to seem bigoted. I really just wanted to drive a m/t tacoma to see if I liked it. Didn't think I'd have to deal with the guy all the way through.

I was thinking about how that would have went down f i had initially been in my old Ranger and he had done that BEFORE we had made a deal. *facepalm*

The cheapest Tacoma on my local lot was a 2WD Access cab for $32,000. 4x4s were $36,000+. Much more optioned than my Util model though.

When I went to test drive my new truck he asked me "Did you know you have to push in the clutch to start the truck? I couldn't get it started" I said, "Yes, they are all like that."

Hey guys, I've had a TRD Sport MT for a few months and love it so far. With that said, has anyone noticed it's hard to to keep steady acceleration from 1st to 2nd? Every time I start from a red light the car in front of me will pull way ahead when I shift from 1st to 2nd. Can't seem to figure it out.. tried shifting at low and high RPMs with no luck. The initial acceleration seems slow in general but there is a lot of power once you get going.

First gear is just a bit low for good acceleration, while 2nd is a bit too high to start from. There really doesn't seem to be a good way to get going quickly unless you want to slip the hell out of it in 2nd. I wish they would have stuck with the 3.91 for the manual as they have done for the auto.

If we had the 3.9 you would hear all the MT drivers complaining just like the AT guys. no way should they put the 3.9 in the manuals.

Manuals are fun, but they certainly have been out done with current technology. I am still a fan in certain applications.
