I swear this forum forgets to notify me of posts in threads I'm "Watching". I've missed three pages in the last week without an Alert. :(

If you're gonna get a chevy. Get this.

    http://www.chevrolet.com/colorado-zr2-off-road-truck.html

zr2 with the diesal. F/R lockers, sliders and long travel built in already.

    Should be fun.

I saw that release..but im betting its at least 50k+.

A colorado with the diesel and z71 package is like 44-47k, with all those things added i would rather get a full size duramax for the price lol as cool as the zr2 is admittedly.

If you can wait it'll get end of year rebates like everything else, they'll be competitively priced with the PRO.

I pretty much plan on purchasing by February.

I had a few oppurtunities at PROs (Tundra) but its just not worth it really. I have found LTZ/SLT chevy/gmcs with the 6.2 for same price or lower then pros and they are far ahead in value.

I think he means in what you get for your money, tacomas have the best "resale/value" from that standpoint alone, but full size you get more for your $.

    Lol that came out wrong

    This^^

The Pro Tundra was cool. But for the cost, it just does not have the features or performance of the full size trucks these days. Besides holdings resale value and offroad potential(which we all know can be fixed), many of the new makes are doing much better in resale lately such as the 6.2 GMC/Chevy. The other brands such as Ford and GM just offer "more truck" then the Tundra at this point.

Believe me I hate to say it but its true.

    i can see that.

I also don't see why you need a full size really..or most people that own them.

But i am in the middle of the land of people that actually really use and abuse the fullsize truck...as well as tards that don't.

And i still don't get the appeal to 80% of the people that own that that use them 3 times a year and then proceed to DD it like a car. Never will get that.

I dont "need" one. Kinda like i dont "need" a diesel, even though i would love one.

I honestly am better off with a car, I just don't want one. I have a 2500 long box work truck I DD and can use for everything. This new truck is more of my toy. I want something powerful and comfortable for long travels in my personal use rather then taking my crappy riding work truck.

I still haul things every now and again and plan on buying a future project car or side by side. I would rather tow with my personal truck then work truck just to keep the personal/work lifes seperate a bit.

You are right though, most people do not need them, myself included..I just want one lol.

You're old tacoma would tow a side by side fine :gossip: or a 2nd gen.

Be a way better toy then a full size truck IMO. Be cheaper up front. Slap a URD blower or magnoson one on it. Rear gear it. 35s. +2'' front LT kit. Nice mid travel out back. = super fun comfortable and versatile truck.

Considering what my dad has towed with his 2nd gen..I think you'd be fine.

    But whatever haha

    Its your truck :)

I have to agree. It was really hard not to consider the LTZ when I went shopping (again). 6.2L, leather, nicely appointed with Bose, very, very comfortable cabin, usable 6.5ft box.. all that but the chevy still feels like an honest truck.

The price point was not that far off of what a Tacoma limited or TRD OR is when you can find these bonus tagged.

Frankly the TRD OR 3rd gen was a mistake on our part. Yes- the whole family could drive it, but the the MPG's were horribly overstated, the drive train is really not all that refined (and I say that politely), the 'gee whiz bang' crawl control is really only useful in very limited circumstances and frankly- a DCLB on any serious trails is not a wise choice anyway. I found myself having to 'top off' the tank wherever I might happen to be so I don't fret when I'm out in Eastern Montana 60+ miles from fuel. Plus I couldn't really carry my dogs, kennels, camping gear without some seriously creative packing, lol.

One thing is for sure- these be interesting time for truck options!

My old tacoma could tow a side by side..but it would hate every second of it.

It just didn't have the power. Loved the old girl and shes still running around in Butte.

I've thought about doing just that. Buy a low mileage 2nd gen and do exactly as you said..but for a newer model with low miles im still looking at 25-30k for low low miles. Plus do all that and ive got worse mileage, less space, and less power all for what a new fullsize would probably cost.

Would it do the job, yes. But it just doesn't make as much sense to me.

2017 GMC Sierra. So fully loaded, 6.2 brand new. Now that still is a pricey truck, but not when you compare to say a new tacoma when you side by side performance and space.

This expresses it better then I can for some reason. I still actually enjoy the looks of the third gens modded up. But they are having issues. That and for cost, it just doesn't even make sense to me.

This was my truck for over 13 years.

    Truck1_525337fe3558882763326e7d4dcbcd941f4f0682.jpg

I paid $18,000 for it with 75K on the odometer back in 2002-2003. 5 spd, 24v diesel. I hauled a lot of stuff with it. I sold it (reluctantly) last April for $14,000. 230,000 on the odometer.

I'd say it held onto its value pretty damned well, lol.

It had the original injectors in it. I swear other than a minor oil leak, no problems with the engine at all. Had to upgrade the weak fuel pump and chase some other bits of Dodge out of it, but other than that I have nothing but praise for this truck. They got this one right.

Well off to slumberland. Tomorrow gotta clean up some 3rd gen parts, take pictures and get that stuff sold. The only thing I'm buying for my new truck is floor mats and a topper down the road..
