I bought Air Lift springs and was going to have a friend help me install them tomorrow. Then I come upon your post.

Can you tell me why they suck? If it's that big a difference, I'll spend the extra for Firestones...

We've got an '07 4 cyl. ECLB...with a Leer bed cap...might do some towing down the line, but obviously not much with the 4 banger.

    Payload is 1350, I believe...Air Lifts rated to 2,000

I'd appreciate your feedback. Thank you.

OP, if you put air bags in you can load your bed as full as you want without it sagging AT ALL. With that said I would not do it, its hard on your axle and drivetrain and depending on tires.

I think all pickups should have air bags, its the only way to have adjustable rear suspension so your never sagging. These work really well for people like me who are always changing the weight they carry and I also pull an ATV trailer so I now sit perfectly level with the added tongue weight plus gear in the back of my truck.

I'm unaware of any state statute for payload on a passenger vehicle.

Regarding criminal charges for defective equipment(brakes, tires, etc) there's a case in Portland, OR where the driver struck and killed a bicyclist after losing control of his vehicle. Vehicle had bald tires and the driver was aware of the issue. Charged with Criminally Negligent Homicide. I think the theory is the driver was negligent because he failed to address a safety issue he knew about. I don't think this theory would work with an overloaded passenger vehicle that is upgraded to handle the weight and in otherwise good operating condition.

Personally as long as your brakes are good and suspension upgraded to handle the weight I don't see an issue. The brakes on even a base model are significantly better than what was available on a 1 ton 25-30 years ago. If you think these frames flex you should how bad a 73-87 Chevrolet flexes.

Looks like I'm a little late to the party. I have a set of ICON AAL I would be willing to sell. I recently went All Pro expo leaf pack. (and wont ever go back)

Not trying to drag the post toooo far off topic, but I'm wondering if I'll need to upgrade my suspension if I plan on throwing on a steel bumper/rear BEFORE I switch the suspension (found a good deal that's time sensitive).

If I put those bumpers on, will I not be able to transport a small ATV until I swap the suspension?

Apparently people are willing to ignore this FACT.

The payload has to do with the entire trucks capacity, not just the rear springs. Loading the bed up and pulling a load is completely different. Just because it can tow 6500 lbs has nothing to do with the load bearing capacity of the truck as a whole. Bearings, axles, shock and spring mounts just to name a few.

I seen a big ol 1990's Tuna boat type station wagon pulling a super old, super heavy Travel Trailer down the freeway on my way home from work yesterday... not sure if there are laws dealing with this but I sure wouldnt do it.

True. Towing capacity assumes that 10% of that weight is on the tongue. A 6500# trailer would be 650 # on the hitch. People routinely put 1,000 # campers on these trucks though. Better suspension does help stabilize the load at least.

When I was 19, I helped two of my buddies load 3,600# of redi-mix into the bed of his 1/2 ton Ford. We made it almost home before we broke an axle pulling away from a stop light. That was my first lesson in payload capacity :)

I have a 2016 tacoma DC 2wd long bed. I am planning on upgrading suspension with 5100 with AAL. Can I also add the SumoSprings with the AAL in the rear?

If you are carry anymore than 2 passengers with 3 bags of groceries in the bed you need 3/4 ton truck.
