Im going to start this rant by saying that my 2016 TRDOR DCSB MT is my first Tacoma, but not my first "Toyota"(2006 Scion tC bought new late 2005, which i traded for a 2013 Scion FR-S in 2013).

What I really dont understand is why people are hating on the 3rd gens. You spent $30k+ on a vehicle, did you not test drive it? I am one of the wierd few that prefer a manual to an auto so im not having any of the shifting complaints that most of you are, but again, didnt you test drive it? If it shifted like crap on the test, id have walked away, but no, you signed the paper work that allowed you to drive a vehicle that you dont like, then bitch about it on internet forums.

On to my second point, fuel economy. Its a damn pickup for shit sake. If you wanted better mileage, you should have bought a prius. Im sorry your 275hp, 4500lb vehicle doesnt get very good fuel economy. If youre only getting 16mpg, maybe its your driving style, im pretty sure nobody promised you good gas mileage when you bought it.

    Other trucks:
Yes a new dodge 1500 will tow better, an ecoboost f150 will be faster etc etc, so why didnt you just buy one of those rather then buying a taco and bitching about it being slow?

When i was looking at buying something, i speced out all of the competition, it needed to be 4x4, 4 door, and the wife didnt want something low (hense why we didnt get a subaru wagon). Our Taco rang up at a touch over $35k, the ford and dodge were both over 40k For what we wanted.

Depreciation: with 2013-15 still going for 30k, we were happy pulling the trigger on the taco, while the rest of the small-ish pickups dont fair quite as well.

So yes, the taco is not without faults (iffy automatic trans, so so fuel economy) but lets not pretend that everything else is perfect, mkay?

So quit your bitchin people, if you dont like something then maybe you should have bought something else.

Seems some of the 3rd gen owners are big whiny titi babies and for some reason they'd rather bitch about their truck rather than trading it in and moving on with something they'll enjoy.

    I just don't get it.....

Considering all the people that love their 3rd gen taco don't bother coming on forums. It usually is the ones who have problems that come on here for help.

Bitching and comiserrating is free. Taking a $3k- $5K hit on trade or sale is a stick in the eye.

It also perplexes me how members spew hate on the handful of people who've had nearly every legit 3rd gen issue (e.g. Smitty)... but people who don't even own the truck start up threads on how the trans/lighting/mpg sucks, and almost never a word against them...

There is actually only a very small % of people having problems. You will find a lot of whine posts because people like to air out their dirty laundry. Additionally people with problems come to forums for solutions.

Looking down the first page of the forum there are only a couple of threads about truck issues. The rest are build threads, aftermarket questions, etc

I totally agree with the op. But there r a select few that have had legit issues but also a lot of whiny people complaining about whining diffs. I personally drive diffs till they blow up. The new trucks r so quiet inside u can hear everything. My 01 is so loud between exhaust intake mud tires and stereo I didn't hear anything till the ring and pinion ate eachother.

I read this wanting to hate it, really really loved it. First thing I thought was "I guess "jefffaheyfan" was taken. But bravo. I love both my tacomas, old and new. Really love the look and drivability of the new.
