Just some background on the poll:
I drive a double cab sport with the 60/40 split seats in the rear. The pull tab disengages the seat latch in order to access gear stowed behind the seat back.

The tab itself is what broke abd Toyota says there is nothing they can do so far except to remove and replace the seat entirely. When I looked at that as an option, I couldn't see any way to get at all the bolts for the seat to remove it. So I'm not sure how they're going to go about fixing this specifically, but I'm confident they WILL come to a resolution in short order.

PLEASE include in your comments if you have had anything else fail in your truck regardless of what model/trim level you own.

No; but, you just reminded me about the seatback hinge covers I need to protect, before it cuts into the rear seats.

How did that rip off? Bad stitching or too much pressure?

They should be replacing the whole seat next week. I'll update when I hear more. But I'm thinking of causing a stink about the front bucket seats also. I weigh 148lbs and the sides of the bottom portion of the seat are showing signs of over compression. It's like they have no bounce back after only a year of owning it. That's a small thing to complain about i suppose but I'm getting as much as I can out of the warranty on this truck. Especially since it's a $50,000 purchase... I should just go with full plastic buckets

Also I'm surprised no else is having more interior issues. Maybe you're all bit looking hard enough ;)

It takes five minutes to remove the rear seats. I've removed mine several times. Let Toyota deal with it.

I asked about that, seems my dealership is a tad... Touched...? They insisted the whole seat needs replacing. I'll phone tomorrow and give them a heads up. I wish they had more of a dealer forum for issues like this to track things that fail and if one dealer has found a solution they could... Oh... I don't know... Share it with every other dealer? I know there TSB's but they only release those on consistent issues. What about the one off issues that plague a handful of trucks?

upper part - seat back. The pull tab that latches the seat closed and gains you access to gear stowed behind the seat

ok thanks. I thought you meant the base. My rear seat bases have no lock. They just stay down by weight. Is that normal?

Well my nephew weighs 30lbs and his mother told me I needed something called a booster seat to travel with him in the truck..? I hit a bump in the road and the seat bottom nearly launched the kid out the window! Needless to say I'm researching booster seats right now.

So to answer your question, yes that's normal

Sorry @Z50king , I seem to have caught the sarcasm bug...

So just a heads up for everyone else... After speaking with Toyota, they have sent off a request to engineering on how to proceed with this repair since they can't even unlatch the seat to access the bolts in order to unbolt the seat and replace it.

They said their only option they can see at this point is to literally cut open to seat back to access to latch mechanism and then they can remove and replace the whole seat (which they don't want to do)

Has anyone got any ideas how to get the seat unlatched? I got an exploded view of all the parts in the seat but it's unclear how the mechanism works. Has anyone removed the seat back before and happen to have a picture of what exactly the latch mechanism looks like?

I've got some TIG welding rod I'm going to try and feed into the seat to maybe get the thing open.

Aside from that I'm open to suggestions because Toyota sounds like they want to pin this on 'owner abuse' so they don't have to pick up the bill... I find that insulating personally since the pull tab is clearly not stitched properly to sustain repeated use. And stupid me forgot to take a picture myself for my own records...

o wow. I was going to suggest using a slim jim to try and get behind the seat to unlatch but I assume that's a latch like a door where it's sealed inside
