yeah, front and rear. How is replacing the front brakes going to change that? If the rear brakes ever lock up under heavy braking, Toyota is fucked

The desire to spend every dollar is alive and well on this forum. Why not swap the 3.5 for an 2nd gen 4.0 while your considering replacing perfectly good brake pads? At least then you'll have actually improved the truck

This, especially since the rears are drums... and what do we know about drums, class?

    Thank you!

And now thinking about this, and knowing that OEs tend to bias their brakes HEAVILY towards the front as it adds stability under braking at the cost of total braking power, let's think about what the Tacoma's brake proportioning valve is going to be doing...

If you answered "generate dramatically less pressure at the rear wheels," you get a cookie!

So by getting yourself big honking front brakes you're only exacerbating the problem you think you have! If you really want to lower your 60-0's you would look for more aggressive shoes for the rear (increase that μ to the rear wheels) or figure out a way to alter the brake bias rearwards (aftermarket adjustable proportioning valve? I dunno how the TR OR ones with the fancy e-boosters work...)

half of this forum reminds me of my last car forum, VW R32, where folks were changing every single part on the car for neurotic butt dyno stuff on cars that would never see the track or strip. but it made sense.

this doesn't. to me at least. the truck stops well. and, it's a truck.

and Nitori is saying one of the main reasons why. the computers in this vehicle are into everything, including brake biasing, VSC brake control, etc... for normal on-road usage i wouldn't mess with it, and if i wanted to then i'd just want a different vehicle.

but BBK's look cool! just not with rear drums!

there is a stick beside your leg that modulates the rear brakes.... you could always yank that to get more braking power....

pretty sure tundra brakes will fit the front of the tacoma. let me check what years it was i was eyeing out the other day. think its the 2000 to 2006 that had the same bracket mounting hole pattern and same stud pattern but cannot remember if it was the 13wl or 13wg calipers i was looking at. didnt have a chance to test fit yet so dont quote me
