The ultimate headlight upgrade H4 (not LED or HID)

Just had my first bulb go, 10 months after installing. Reasonable given the performance.

 

@crashnburn80 I did the ground test and I was measuring .37mv dc. I would assume that with a reading that low its safe to say that my truck is conventionally switched?

 

Subed for future upgrade.

 

I'm not crashnburn80, but I'm confident the answer is yes.

 

I also bought from Susquehanna using a card i rarely use. About 15 days later i found a $2700 dollar charge to the card for. Reported and credited by the card issuer, but they may have a breach.
i am going to contact them on monday.

i just bought the Osram replacement (Vosia H4 +100) 65w/70w got 3 of them 1 for spare incase 1 dies well on road a night. and ceramic h4 plugs . so i will change from plastic to ceramic .i already have relays so ill just make a harness if needed. And PayPal was a payable option bought from candlepower. it was 65 bucks for everything. thanks for the info.

 

Let me know if they ship. I ordered the same bulbs plus philips for the fogs. one of them is out of stock. hopefully they get them tomorrow.

 

Very sorry to hear of the problems you guys encountered. Certainly appears to be a pattern centered around Rallylights (Susquehanna Motorsports) and/or their credit card processor.

+1 to all of this. I've placed 2-3 orders through them with no trouble. Having spoken with Ray several times, I agree with @crashnburn80 - I doubt the company is involved. Much more believable they (or their credit card processor) have been hacked. FWIW, @timbobzimbob, I had better luck reaching them via phone than online form.

 

ok will keep you posted. i bought the phillips from Amazon first. they were damaged in shipping due to the shitty box Phillips uses its a cheap plastic box . bulbs were loose inside and scuffed up glass and that coating on them were all scratched from being tossed around in shipping so not usable . so i bought these because they had individual boxes. check em first.

 

Like I said I would order shipped today with 3 day shipping.

 

Would this method work with projectors?

So if someone were to install the Hella 130/90 watt bulbs just using the factory wires are they going to hurt my current wiring?

 

Yes. will probably melt them. the harness the op reccomends is the way to go

 

I would think the plastic plugs would get to hot and melt then maybe trip fuse. Buy the ceramic plug or eBay the H4 plastic to ceramic 4" conversion. But the harness is the best way.

Yes. Though projectors are more forgiving for the light source, so there may be less benefit.

130w, you are going to want the standalone harness. The harness reduces voltage drop allowing your bulbs to burn brighter. Trying to pull that much power through stock wiring, even if you swap to ceramic connectors to mitigate the heat and if the fuses hold, is going to starve the bulbs of their potential and see much lower performance than you would if you upgraded the harness.

 

Does anyone know if this upgrade affects the DRL on a 2016 3rd gen? I'm really interested in doing this. Could you refer me to the proper wiring harness for low beam only on a 3rd gen?
