I think you and the others get what I'm saying, just want to be argumentative here.
Do you hunt with your CAR AR15, with the quad rails and collapsible buttstock and the doo-dads on it?
Can you hear the snickers at the range when you pull it out of the case and set it on the bench?

    Ever heard of tacticool?
    Ever heard of mall ninja?
    Guess what......

You need a piston AR for that....DI's won't cut the mustard.
    Better get camo, too.
    Really.

I will not go shooting unless I am wearing a ghillie suit too. Im convinced that I dont need my AR anymore. I am going to buy an airsoft gun. I am just too much of a pretender to own a quality firearm. Shucks

    Actually, I'm thinking paintball.
There are AR-style markers you can buy and they look REALLY cool.
You still need a piston-driven system.

I think I may just get an AR-15 cigarette lighter.

More seriously, I may not be in the Armed Forces and I have yet to compete in any gun competitions, but it doesnt mean that I cant enjoy having a quality gun. I owned a Bushmaster prior to the SR556, and it jammed on me 1 too many times. It was a good gun, and I will tell you that it worked perfectly for the type of shooting I do, but I wanted something better. Did I need something better? Absolutely not- but I had a chance to sell it for a number I couldnt say no to. I then was on the market for a new AR, and decided to put an extra 500 towards a piston system.
Im a guy. I like to have good quality stuff. Its why I own a Toyota. Its why I spend plenty of time researching for higher quality merchandise before purchasing.

Dude you have no idea what your even talking about, and now you have proven it to the rest of TW.

Ever heard of the right tool for the job. You don't use a hand screw driver to put a screw in the wall you use a drill.

For long range target shooting one doesn't need a collapsible stock, fore-grip, rails or a compensator. For obvious reason, but someone who shoots CQB matches, or targets can use these features more than a 12x power scope. Right tool for the job my friend. That's why the AR plat form is one of the more versatile on the market. I can swap my long range upper, with nothing on it but a scope and a bi-pod for a 16" (or smaller {Matt you dog}) upper with my collapsible stock, Aimpoint, back up sights, flash light and fore grip on my quad rails in 30 sec. Now I have one gun that can change depending on the situation. How man other platforms can you name that do that reliably?

I still don't see what your trying to say or what your point is...I think you are more confused than we are lol.

    Thanks for a well-reasoned response.
I, too am sometimes overly analytical but appreciate quality.
And you saw first-hand how buying a name doesn't equal the performance you expect.
See what and how you expect to use it, and make your decision.
Remember, AR uppers are like Legos, you can build almost anything your imagination and Visa can support.

    I apologize...you're 23.
I do know what I'm talking about.
Funny how shooting for almost 40 yrs can add perspective.
Strangely, alot of screws were driven with old-skool(see, I'm not out of touch!)screwdrivers.

Just because I'm 23 doesn't mean I don't know what I'm talking about. Someone who has been shooting for 40 years should know that. Plus I bet there are many 19, 20, 21, 22 and on year olds in the services that know more than even you think you know about shooting.

An older person told me once, just because your older doesn't make you smarter. They way our country is running is proof of that...;)

    Against my better judgement:

First of all, yes people hunt with their AR's and all -as you would call them- "Tacticool doo-dads" on them. .223/5.56 is one of the best coyote cartridges out there. Not to mention the AR can be ideal for a number of reasons. Namely you can reach out to 700 yards while being totally customizable. It takes literally seconds for you to change an upper, or change your optic set up. It just makes sense to have a gun like that which can be used for multiple purposes. Then again from what I've seen you write in this thread, "sense" doesn't seem to register with you....

If it's your go-to weapon at night, a light could come in handy. Although I'd prefer a pistol.
