In a surprising move, the playoff committee has:
    1 Clemson
    2 OSU
    3 Washington
    4 penn State

They moved Bama to the NFC south.

I agree. But I think Ohio St gets the 4th spot behind Alabama, Washington, Clemson. But...if Tech had beaten Clemson would they have deserved a top 4 seed based on the fact they won the ACC.

Yup. If Penn State is booted from the Playoffs then stop holding Conference Championships and pretending they matter.

Need to have 8 team Playoff and be done with it. No arguing who gets in except the actual seedings at that point.

Last year the big 12 got left out for a lack of a championship game. This year the big 10 champ is left out and the team they beat is in. Kinda sends mixed signals. Are conference championships meaningful or not?

Just expand to 8. 5 champions and 3 at large bids. Seeding based upon the rankings. Eliminate one cupcake cake on the schedule and the total number of games played remains the same.

8 teams top 8, if the acc has 4 teams that are better than the everyone elses CC then they should get 4 teams in. Its not fair to send someone in who came from a conference that was down, that year that barely had a winning season, just because they won the ccg like KY almost made it in the sec CCG and had they somehow been able to win no one would have said they deserved a chance for the NC, just sayin

Baylor and TCU from two years ago... yeah. But they said last year. Hence my response.

Yes. I meant two yrs ago when TCU(iirc) dropped out of the top 4 during championship week without losing.

I don't agree with 6 teams. You can't have a system based on "win and you're in" and then give teams a bye. It's a huge unfair advantage.

Wait, it's unfair to get in because you win? Soooo...you should get in by not winning...like Ohio state.

I don't think there should be a bye, but I do think it should be 5 conf champs and an at large. 8 teams is too many.

I only said that the new system is supposed to be better. Win and you're in. Not let some computer calculate how good your team is when you try to put 100 points on someone.

How do you not have byes with a 6 team playoff?

You will at some point. There's no way around it. The "most fair" would be the top 2 teams. Or the top ranked team left standing after the first round gets a bye. Maybe having a bye isn't "fair." Soooo...win all your games, and do it convincingly, and earn a bye.

6 teams is the best way to do it without watering down the regular season. You want every game to count. That'll still be the case with a 6 team playoff.

I just don't believe conference champs should auto qualify you...but being one should def help your case

it's obviously not a perfect system

The 6 team suggestion I posted earlier is actually the brainchild of Pat Forde from Yahoo Sports...and I'm a huge fan of his idea. It provides motivation to win as many games as possible, as first 2 teams get a bye so to speak, and even if you're not top 2, provides motivation to win as many as possible to be at least 3rd or 4th because then you can get an extra home game for 1st round games.

Was going to be the "well actually" guy, but it looks like this was already corrected.

Hope he sticks around at least for the playoffs. Hurts is one awkward tackle or cheap shot away from going down. I love the kid, but running quarterbacks make me so nervous!

You have to think of the current system as something that's completely separate from the conference system. The playoff committee doesn't care that your conference has a championship or not, or how your conference is divided into divisions. They look for the best four teams, period.

I, for one, still think one could make an argument for PSU over OSU, given the head-to-head an the fact that they've been a damn good team since their losses, but they lost two and that was just too much. Take away either loss and I think they get in over OSU.

I don't think we'll see a 6-team playoff. I think the next move (if there is one) will be to double the size of the playoffs to 8, make the conference championships play-in games, and have the committee decided seeding and the three at-large teams. It would bring playoff meaning back to the conference championships, and it would leave plenty of room for strong teams that weren't able to get into their conference championship because of one loss, etc. Yes, you'll end up with some dud conference champions, but I still think it'll be better than what we have now.
