    Yeah buttt...at the end of 6 years he has $15k equity into the truck if he financed it so..

    24,888-21,600=3,288.

    15,000-3,288=11,712 equity

    Lease =0

    I drive 50k miles a year. no lease here. That being said, I don't get renting a car or truck and calling it your own.

    If you lease/rent a place to live, do you refer to it as your place?

    Sorry. Not trying to insult and run away as this has been discussed quite a few times on here. This guy knows nothing about me nor my situation and I assure you it is far different than his uncles.

    It is your place to live, yes. Do you own it, no. Like leasing, it is your vehicle to drive but you don't own it. You don't own a financed vehicle either..what is the problem?

    That is a little bit of a different situation. But for tax purposes, I think back in 2012 renting officially qualified for home office tax deduction where you used to have to own it to qualify.

    I forgot to address this. You are not a remote employee and you choose to travel to your place of employment. That is your employer/ landlord who assumes all tax liability for the dwelling, not you. I don't write these tax codes so this isn't my fault you do not receive these benefits. If you do not like it, vote for FairTax.

    My point with renting a place to live, do you say to buddies, let's go back to my place or do you say lets go back to my rental. This was in response to

    Sorry should have quoted it to begin with.

    I do agree our tax system is broken and as a society we need to find a better way.

    Wrong, 554x 72 = 39,888 THEN you subtract the 15000 to wind up with 24,888 total cost of purchase.

    My 2016 Sport 4x4 had a sticker price of 41K and some change. I had the truck built with what I wanted on it. I have a 36 month lease, 12K a year mileage. 0 down and no trade-in and I pay $320 a month. I played a few dealers against one another as most dealers wanted in the neighborhood of $400 a month.

    So using these numbers, saying it costs 24,888 to buy the truck over 72 months that's $345.66 per month

    With a lease followed by an end lease purchase . wich either u pay the residual amount in cash,if your rich ..or u finance and make the remainder payment to eventually own it outright . Yeah u end up paying a few thousand more than the msrp, but for a guy or girl with no credit it is a perfect way to gain credit , and a way to own it outright . eventually . ... and like some one else mentioned if you own a business and use the truck for work, it's a great right off.

    And unless I was lied to I believe you gain equity even with a lease.. maybe not if you don't end up buying

    You can depending on the worth of said vehicle. When you lease you are borrowing the car and paying for the estimated lost value of the vehicle. Depending on what it's worth at turn in determines its equity so to speak. But I think you may have to buy it at turn in to reap the rewards of the equity, which you can turn around and sell it back to the dealer. I don't understand the finer details of leasing, but this is my general idea of it.

    I have noticed a lot of great lease payments on the 2017 tacomas, i have also noticed that some payments are much higher than others. I think it's important to post the bank each person leased through. For example, a lease through Toyota financial will be over 100 dollars more than a lease through US bank or another company. I know a lot of credit uninions have started to lease vehicles, the payments are great because they generate a much higher residual than what Toyota financial has put in place. It's also important to note that the benefits of possibly having equity at the end has been thrown out the window because of how the lease is structured.
