This "cap", "topper" and "canopy" must be a regional thing. I know here in the north-east we call them caps but looks like west coast they are a canopy.

Everyone I know calls them shells.

Anyway, I've always had an open bed. I like using it for a shooting bench. I can sit in the bed and use the side wall to rest my rifle, or I can go prone and prop my rifle on a backpack or something.

I want to get a top shell, cap, topper, whatever you guys call them, but I'm worried that my spent brass from the semi auto rifles would chip the side Windows.

As well it's nice to be able to just throw any kind of junk in the bed, or shovel in dirt easily etc.

For the guys that have shells, are they easy to put on and off yourself? I can't imagine my girlfriend would be of any help.

I might get one at some point, but I have mechanical priorities over the shell.

Would definitely be nice to have, but I couldn't see myself wanting it on all the time. I love having the bed open, keeping the back light weight and drifting around.:burnrubber:

As far as brass, my side windows have screens over them. Brass would bounce off the screens without hitting the glass. If you get one without screens, go to Home Depot or Lowes and get a sheet of 1" insulation and make panels that cover the windows.

    Few things.
It would be illegal if the vehicle was moving and I was hunting protected game like deer or elk.
It's actually not illegal if you are on your own property hunting varmints, and possibly game, but I would have to check on the game part.

No, I just do it for target practice, when I hunt I always go out on foot and shoot off hand.

Shooting off your truck bed for target practice when the vehicle isn't moving is perfectly fine.

I work in law enforcement, and I'm only speaking about my state laws, so don't take this as legal advice. Some state like California have way too many unconstitutional laws.

However when I was a kid many years ago my buddies and I would drive around shooting varmints with 22s out the Windows .

Pretty common stuff around my state.

There's a county where people hunt rabbits with golf clubs, but that's another story for another day.

Mobtown or KBVoodo makes a bed bar system that you can remove the bed bars and then you would just roll up the tonneau and you can use your whole bed. They can support a RTT as well. Perfect setup IMO

Just a heads up before you purchase your roll up, the Mobtown bars will not work with the Access roll-ups. Double check his bars compatibility before you decide on a cover.

It all depends on your needs. I have no use for a bed cap myself. Currently have a canvas trifold cover but will be eventually bed rack setup. I tented over the factory tent and I can't see very much without the backup camera. I would get one if it didn't already have it. Love that thing. If you have a need for a bed cap get that and get a backup camera for your visibility issues. my two cents.
