You have your filter sitting on top the engine. That was the only thing I liked about my 2nd gen. After driving it a couple weeks I knew I wasn't keeping it so I let the dealer take care of those oil changes. It wasn't worth my time or money to do it. I could care less if they did a good job at this point LOL

I'm dreaming of when people took some initiative and searched before starting a thread about something that has been answered countless times with tons of information already posted. But one can dream.

Nothing wrong with open dialog here. Just skip over the threads you have no interest in. That is what I do, it keeps my ignore list from getting to big.

OP....10k mile OCs are perfectly fine. Too many people over think this stuff around here. Pick out a 0w-20 oil and filter....change it at 10k intervals....and enjoy your truck.

There are millions of Toyota and Lexus vehicles with 2GR applications that have had nothing but 10k OCIs there entire life and are fine.

I only changed mine because It's not good to leave oil for more then a year without being changed. If I hadn't changed it I'd be stuck changing it in late March, not knowing what the weather would be like then I did on a nice 65 degree November day in South Jersey.

Maybe I'm old school, but I always do a first oil change at 2000-2500 miles. Then one at 5000, and every 5000 going forward. I agree, even with synthetic oil, 10,000 miles is just too long.

This will be the last oil question on a truck forum ever again. Ever. Bible.

Not talking down, simply pointing out your ignorance and lack of intelligence to simply look for an answer to something in a forum about trucks that probably has been answered before. By the same pink leotard looking guy who's owned multiple Tacomas including the oh so special TRDs that some newb bro thinks is so special when in reality his TRD Sport is nothing more than a glorified appearance package and if he was truly an enthusiast and Tacoma guy would have opted for the same priced TRD Off-road with available locker, crawl control, etc. rather than a non functional hood scoop. But I digress and will let you continue with your false elitest nonsense thread and rambling, meanwhile I'll figure out a way to not be such a pink gear wearing two stroke loving, 75 foot double jumping poor Sr5 owner. I bet you own a SB too...

Oil thread + 3rd gen forum = nothing good. :crapstorm:

There are 57887543456.8 oil threads around here. Another won't hurt anything.

    Let's be nice

I've been on this forum since day one that I bought my 09 Prerunner in April of 2015. I've come to the conclusion that the best answer to any question is "do what works best for you" or simply move on. That's what works for me but at nearly 58 years old maybe I'm just getting tard.

When it comes to oil.....for sure.

People get so worked up over brands, viscosities, filters, intervals, etc. My oil can beat up your oil nonsense.

The manual will tell us what type of oil to use and when to change it. All modern oils and filters are good. Pick one....move on with life.

    Oh....and read my sig.

Dealership did every one, well almost all of them. Never had an issue, best part was probably the third from last change when the service manager comes out and says the dip stick is stuck. I said, that's on you guys I never touch the thing. Oh and I traded it with the stuck stick.

When I bought my truck I started arguing with the finance guy who was promising the required 5k oil changes for the first 20k miles. I told him that service would not give me them but he could put it in writing so they couldn't refuse.

    What makes you say this?

I'm curious because I thought so too when I first got my funcar four years ago with its 15,000 mile oil change interval. I grew up old school, 3000 mi changes with dino oil and all that. 15,000 miles seemed WAY too long.

However, I realized I had no factual basis for my assumption that what was true thirty years ago remained true today, so I decided to spend $25 to get some actual information in lieu of supposition. I had a Blackstone analysis done on the oil at nearly 8k. In addition to raw #s they also provide comparison to averages for the motor, as well as a written assessment.

The result? There was LOTS of life left in the oil at 8,000 miles.

Go with what lets you sleep well of course, but I'm satisfied with 10k intervals given today's technologies and higher oil capacities.
