if anyone has an idea on how to fix my screwup for mounting my skid plates that could be a another project. If not I can be a helping hand if any more are needed.

 

what did you do to your skid plates?

 

Nothing to the skid plates themselves. A couple of the Bolt holes were stripped out when I gpt the truck so I drilled and tapped all the holes to a bigger bolt size. First time creating new threads that weren't a helicoil (where it tells you what size bit to use) and I drilled the hole too big for the tap I used so the threads are too shallow if that makes sense. Don't think I can go bigger. Not sure how to fix it.

 

you know you screwed the pooch when no one replies with suggested fixes lol. I'm wondering if I can buy factory hardware and helicoil it back down to size

 

it does make since a buddy of mine did the same thing on his jeep mounting a roof rack

you good at welding?

im not sure if it would work like strength wise but what he did was just welded the holes shut so just drill the threads out and lay a bead down inside the hole to fill it up then grind clean
then you can re thread that

but his wasn't holding much weight i don't know how well it would work for holding the skids up

 

anyone know if this is a good idea? I have little to no welding experience or metal fab​
