Havent seen them in the waters yet this season. The dolphins kept bothering me…taking my bait and chasing the fish. They like to live in that bay where we went camping.

Im not sure the depth, I dont run any electronics on board…but it should be between 70-90 fathoms.

Thats some of the good parts of living on an island. We got some good drop offs right from land, right off the Kona airport gets deeeeep.
I mostly bottom fish and like to get in the deep, bigger surprises come up. I know right off the point over there is 40fathoms.

Can you legally fish any deeper then 40 fathoms? I know here in Cali that's the limit for a lot of species.

Hahah, I think of that every time I hop in the water. Weve had enough run ins with sharks on the boat to know, when im on my kayak, that id rather just throw my bait far away…and paddle opposite direction. Kinda grew up in the beliefs that the sharks are also protectors and keep the ocean in balance. We dont bother them, they wont bother us. There was many stories of sharks in different areas that people would feed…and in turn the shark protected that area and the fishermen.

This was actually from yesterday and saturday. A local wheeling group had a camp out, but only one guy showed up friday due to the storm an closed/flooded roads. We ended up doing good at fishing and I also dived yesterday, scored a tako/octopus.

Idk, im Hawaiian so I dont follow most of the federal and state laws. I just go with the seasons the Hawaiians used to gather, grow or fish for food.

I know on boat you have to get certified to bottom fish and also run a sticker identifying you as that, on top of boat registration and boat operating license…but I dont know anything about that.

:D anything deeper than 7ft is all the same for swimming! either way you cant touch the bottom! we've done a few swim calls way out there. it starts with just one little sharky checking you out, then before you know it BAM theres like 30 of them little bastards swarming ya. it was pretty sweet swimming as far down as you could and still being able to see the boat. beautiful blue water.
