msd ignitions

a friend of mine put the whole msd set up in his crown vic...another put it in his blazer...they recommended i get the off road MSD thats out...anyone know if its good or bad? and what does it do

MSD is a company. They make high performance ignition systems.

Better controller, better wires, better coils. Better quality wires and components = better spark. With a better set of spark plugs, it should create a cleaner/more even burn. Better burn= better power creation and more horses.

I used MSD components in my supercharged Dakota, and was not disappointed.

How hardcore off road are you and how many other mods have you done that you need improved sparking over other mods. I'd suggest a a few more basic things like a good intake / exhaust and some beefier drive train internals before you get so fine tuned to worry about spark and ignition control.

 

word well my trucks dead stock im looking at the cold air intake k&n and flow master...in what situations can an msd ignition help off road

IDK about Toyota Ignition systems so I'm defer to Chris on that part- but on a bone stock truck there no need to rebuild the ignition IMHO.
If you were running forced induction or any number of other compression or timing mods or significant fuel mods- you might seen an improvement in power/engine managment.
