Thank you so much for posting this Craig. I have read this whole thread several times and find inspiration each time. I'll be at 13 months sober on Monday and have to say that your original post was a part of the boot that I needed in my backside. I too had that wakeup call that I needed to turn things around and found the strength to get things together with the unwavering support of my wonderful wife. Without her, all just might be lost on me. Like you, I found the inner strength to start anew with just her by my side. I must say, I cannot remember a longer time in my life when I have been happier than since my decision to embrace a sober life.

Congratulations my friend on over three years and keep up the great work.

    Thank you again,
    Eric

    Thank you Eric!

I wish you continued success and I'm very happy you were able to accomplish what many cannot.

Just Friday was the day my mom killed herself 2 years ago. I'm still angry, still question why. But I've come to terms that it was the only way she felt she could escape the addiction. I don't know you guys, but I'm damn proud of any of you who could fight through it and overcome it. Your friends and family may not tell you enough, but being someone who's lost a parent to alcoholism, keep fucking going brothers.

Oh, man. I'm sorry to hear that and hope some day the pain and anger you feel ease just a little bit.

A lot of people are tormented by alcoholism and hurt in immeasurable ways. Only some of them are alcoholics.

I hope you find the peace you deserve and thank you for your kind words.

So my daughter just gave me this. Only my 11 year old daughter could make me cry.

Damn, man. That was one of the heavier things I've ever read.

The balls it took to come clean to your little girl like that...I can't imagine. Extremely admirable that you did it, though, and were willing to be held accountable.

Keep it up and thanks for sharing.

Thank you. And yes, it was very hard coming clean to my 6 year old daughter at the time but I "needed" to be held accountable from that point forward. If I didn't come clean to my family then what was to hold me back from repeating the same process over and over as I had done in the past? She's 12 now and has grown into a wonderful young lady. We have this extremely open relationship with each other to where she feels comfortable with talking to me about anything without the worry that I will be angry with her. She brings her problems, issues that she is going through, or just general questions that are sometimes hard to talk about to me. So for that I am grateful. Without her and my wife's support who knows where I would be now? It wouldn't be a pleasant place that I can promise.

Sometimes it takes a relapse to help you understand. Of course we all wish for that to not happen but life can get in the way. The fact that you realized it and took care of it speaks volumes about your character. Keep up the good work my friend. You are always welcome here to speak about whatever you wish. Life is hard enough without drugs / alcohol. Once we bring those into the mix it just exacerbates our issues that we all face.

Congrats my friend. As I'm sure you're aware... it gets much easier the further you distance yourself from the situations that might have put you there in the first place. My continued wish for your continued success.

11 months and the personal excitement of reaching 1 year is overwhelming. I want to celebrate but unsure how. Anyone have any clever ideas or experiences you care to share?

    Thanks
