RIP Sweet Prince...You Will Be Missed

yeah I have the 4.0 and I get 16.5-17 in town and 19 on the highway. It makes a little more power than the 4.0 in the 2nd gen tacos but its negated with a little more weight.

 

The light ass on our trucks definately means a little more caution is needed. Added weight helps, but only to an extent.
Personally, if I were to end up in that situation, I'd use the excuse to get a Tundra. Or maybe I'd go and get another IH Scout Traveler with a 345 (I miss that truck).

 

Having been a truck driver for a living for 35+ years, I was ALWAYS amazed to see that during the first couple of weeks of lousy Winter weather almost ANYWHERE in the country I was driving, the majority of vehicles either in a ditch or in the median, either right side up or otherwise, were 4X4 Pickups and SUVs. I was also amazed at the number of people driving one who would go past me at 55 or 60 in blowing snow or on icy roads, apparently thinking that "I've got 4-wheel drive, so I can go fast!". Hell, I had 18 wheels under me, and I always slowed down! You haven't had severe butt clench until you feel the drive axles on a semi break loose, and feel the rig start to fold in the middle!

 

I agree. I'm from Canada originally and for the first couple of weeks of winter, you'd think it was the first time anyone's seen snow......ridiculous. Increase your following distance and slow down and you'll be fine.

OW! And yeah, MA in general is tough on vehicles this time of year..

 

Good reminder. Snowing here for the first time and just getting ready to head home. Will make me drive all that much slower. Glad you are ok physically.

What did you hit? I'm presuming you slid sideways and the wheel smashed into an object in order to create that damage?

Winter driving sucks because: A) People drive TOO slow. B) People don't have good tires. C) People drive TOO fast. D) People don't allow proper distance for stopping on slick roads. E) People in big trucks run red lights because - screw it I'm bigger than you. F) People accelerate way too fast even though the vehicle isn't moving, and therefore just keep pushing the gas pedal down anyhow.

Yah the telephone pole hit my passenger rear access door and then my tire took the rest of it and just tore everything apart

 

Side swipe damage doesn't take high speed. Saw a police car that fishtailed around a right turn during a rain storm at a stop light. Ass end slid out into a concrete median/curb. Broke the rear axle.

Thanks dude, insurance says its most definetely totalled. I told em they best let me take my damn parts off and swap the olds ones on or gimme my 2 grand i spent on them!
