Many of these problems all come down to the "committee", they have too much uncontrollable power.

They have the analysis of a team backwards, where head-to-head and conference championships "only matter when teams are too close to compare". For right now, the way to fix this committee is set head-to-head and Conf. Champs as high bars to surpass and then in "extreme circumstances" where you have a conference champion that has a slew of loses (i.e. - Wisco in 2012 winning the Big 10 and finishing 8-6) is where you could determine an alternative to place in if one exists. IMO Penn State didn't fall into that category and shouldn't have missed out on the playoff at the expensive of tOSU making it.

Literally 3 of the 5 conference championships games didn't matter Saturday. Big 12 (technically not a conf. championship game, but the game determined conf. champion) was already out, Bama could have lost and still made it in, and Big 10 apparently already had a lock of tOSU in.

I thought adding too many teams into a playoff would devalue games, but it appears the committee is working on that already. What's the point in teams playing, if we're just gonna vote afterward on who is better? We're slowly reverting back to the days where polls decided the champion and not the games played.

FSU in the Orange Bowl though. Fifth straight BCS/NY6 Bowl Birth, second-longest streak in the country behind Bama. Go Noles!

I would argue that it has made the conference championships irrelevant in some circumstances (as you pointed out), but it hasn't diminished the regular season as much as some predicted. You don't have to be perfect to make the playoffs, but how much did the second loss by PSU, Mich, Oklahoma, etc. matter? Every game matters, and not getting blown out matters.

I dunno. College football's national champion determination has never been perfect. I'll take a 4-team playoff over anything we've had before.

Apparently sentence structure isn't highly regarded in LSU's Human Resource department.

I'm one of the people in the camp that believe an expanded playoff will hurt the regular season. It makes it way too easy to shrug off loses. I don't mind the occasional team with an extra loss making it in, but it shouldn't be an expectation of teams that they can lose and still sit pretty in a playoff spot.

I don't think we'll get a 6 team playoff, I do think it will eventually expand to 8. I care more that a more standard system is put in place though that allows teams to understand what they need to do to get into the playoff, while offering more consistency behind the rankings (whatever happened to "game control") and not come from the fickle minds of 12 people.

IMO if it's going to be a committee, the committee should be compromised of analyst (like the Bear) who can do proper analysis of the games. The committee has a rule that they can't even talk about any metric that not everyone understands, and each week the group of idiots they've cropped up can only revert to how many top 25 teams a school has beaten.

if conference championships don't matter why did clemson jump osu? I know why.... because TV money is hoping for the saban - meyer rematch. Plus they get to retell the woody slapping you're fired story in the first game.

Didn't they just trade spots, 2 and 3? So, they were going to play each other to begin with, then Clemson jumped osu and poof, they are playing each other.....

Maybe the committee wanted orange jerseys instead of crimson?

Because in the first year, they put ALLLLLL the importance on conference championships, hence TCU dropping from 3rd to 6th and osu jumping from 5th to 4th even though osu lost to vtech? early in the year and lost both their 1st and 2nd string QB's, somehow they were better than TCU who BLEW OUT their opponent that week. (I know, osu ended up winning it all, but they had some sneaky immeasurable help getting in at all).

Then, last year, it was pretty simple.

This year, isn't. And, the committee isn't consistent obviously.

    We fixed that, didn't we.

If, IF Alabama wins the natty, that'll be 5 natty's in 10 years at Alabama. It will also mean, that Alabama has won 66.6% of the nattys since playoff inception.

If tech had beaten clemson should they have deserved a final 4 ? I don't think they are even a top ten team.
