We are referring to an OE backup cam here, which is mostly all stock wiring until the conversion to the RCA cable for my Pioneer NEX8000 HU for the record.

Alright well I have traced this thing up and down at all wiring connection points. All wiring is hooked up properly. Camera is not a culprit as I checked with a known good camera and yet the video feed is still presenting me issues.

It's weird because every once in a while the video feed will come back like nothing ever happened. This system has been working for quite some time now with my "anytime camera on mod," but just yesterday it started doing this. I doubt the RCA cable is bad, but regardless I am strongly considering cutting the entire wiring harness out of the equation up to the bed and running direct power and ground from the battery to the camera, as my battery is not too far away since I did a battery relocate. I want to limit the amount of wiring running into the interior for both the possibility of electrical interference purposes and limiting the amount of runs, looming etc I would have to run in there.

I really only have this question. Would I be able to wire the CV- (Pin 1 at the harness under the bed) directly into the battery as well and just get away with running a (positive lead only) RCA cable (Pin 2 at the harness under the bed) all the way to the radio? Or does the stereo need to see that negative on the RCA cable in order to complete the video feed circuit?

2012 wiring diagram for the truck provided so you can help me out. The camera theoretically shouldn't care where it gets it's camera ground from as long as it has a ground from somewhere right?

Connector BN1 is the one I am referring to which is below the bed. Exploded view of the 4 pin connector below.

You are correct that ground is a common point ( electrically ) and it doesn't matter where you get it attached as long as it is grounded. The positive lead is only looking for the 12 vdc and also doesn't matter where it is coming from.

If you wire the C+ direct to the battery I would make sure to install a fuse. I have no idea what size to use... start small.

You also may want to make sure the shielding is properly grounded to prevent any noise problems.

Does the video cut out after an extended amount of time on or is it random?

Thanks for the quick tips. I had to re confirm this is all that would be needed in order to get this done.

It is entirely random. For instance, right now and yesterday it has been working with no issues whatsoever. I'm not sure what is going or why it would just drop video feed so suddenly like that. As I mentioned before, all wiring checked out perfectly fine. I even removed all electrical tape and checked connections at the shrink tubing and solder joints to ensure everything was being supplied continuity as it should be, all checked out perfectly fine.

If the wiring checks out good there are only two things left:

    Camera or Stereo.

I replaced the camera with a known good one the day I was checking it because the internal wiring within the OE camera casing had something wrong with it the last time I had issues with the backup cam. I was able to get it working again for some time but to rule it out I went ahead and just changed it out. The stereo is a new Pioneer AVIC 8000NEX. Only 6 months old (if that). I noticed that when I went to remount the lower dash while I had the backup cam on and working that the feed stopped working again. The only thing I chalked it up to was just that my wideband AFR sensor wire was being fed signal by the camera RCA. I seperated those two (I had them zip together) and nothing still. The next day the camera worked like nothing ever happned to it.

These intermittent issues can be a real bitch to sort through.
