Honestly you should buy steal, it's more environmentally friendly.

I have been contemplating the same thing as I'm in the market for a bumper and going to be doing a king coil over lift. Leaning on pelfreybilt. I'm thinking steel, I wheel it pretty hard and do some decent crawling and overlanding.

^^ this. also steel is more dense, thus having a higher half-life than aluminum.

What is your intended use? Is it for your identity to be noticed as having a very capable truck that is not the same as others? Do you want to be prepared in case you might need it? are you rock crawling, and challenging yourself and machine on difficult terrain, where a bit of damage is not an issue to you, rather the experience is paramount? 1st two - aluminum will achieve that just fine, and be plenty strong. Last one, steel will give you better abuse protection. Once aluminum is dented, it stretches and does not go back into shape readily, where as steel can be hammered back into shape, sometimes with the help of a little heat.

What is the half-life of steel or aluminum?

In any case, Pelfreybilt has stated (in their other thread... I'll have to find it) that the aluminum they use isn't the thin sheet stuff others have used. They stated it's approximately 70% of the strength of the steel they use. There are also severs accounts of their bumper being involved in crashes and it came out fine.

    I went with aluminum.
