I wondered about adding weight to the bed for winter as well. Always drove SUV's during the winter that were like me and had some weight in the ass end.

 

Oh, I blew up even more slush boxes. A C4 on a Ford, Peugeot 505, 4 on the Cummins... I'm good at breaking things!

 

Yeah last winter I was still driving a Rav4, so that AWD was pretty nice.

 

Hey all, I've got some free time this weekend and was thinking about taking the truck out for its first spin off-road depending on the weather. Would appreciate any good spots near the Providence area; I'm pretty much willing to drive around 45 minutes one way so I figure there should be at least one spot.

 

I was thinking about doing this too especially since I'm rwd how much weight should i add? I was also going to build a small "box" out of some extra 2x4s that I have to keep it all from sliding around

 

I added 180lbs since I also have a larger, heavier spare tire. So I am mostly guessing that will be enough weight. But nothing helps more than driving well haha. I didn't build a box or anything, and no movement so far, but my bed liner still has plenty of grip.

 

My wife just broke the sunroof control on her Sorrento last night. She tole me about it and I just gave her a WTF look. Right on the heels of having it serviced. FML

 

Toyota T-cases are generally pretty strong from my experience. I mean i wouldn't recommend doing figure 8's on dry pavement while in 4WD but for most of how we would normally drive, its pretty hard to break them.

Diffs on the other hand......

 

I have bfg 265/65/r17 all terrain tires so not sure if those are considered heavy or not. So if my tires are really considered heavy I should probably go with somewhere around 200lbs minus the little box I'll be making? First time being in NE for the winter so I want to be sure be ready, well as ready as one could be haha

 

I've got 265/75/16 KO2s, and they are pretty heavy compared to stock IMO. And the only penalty to too much weight is gas mileage, so I wouldn't worry too much about going overboard.

Anytime! As a 5 year transplant to NE my best advice regarding driving in the winter here is "Don't". Especially the first couple storms, people drive horribly. I switch into super defensive driving mode every winter and so far I've done alright.

Yea I figured as much. Thankfully my work commute is only about 15 minutes with no traffic. I'm more worried about my gf's poor poor Prius

 

you guys all seem relatively handy/knowledgeable. does anyone know anything about how much a 24x25 concrete slab would cost that's thick enough for a garage?

 

and while you're at it, if anyone knows what's entailed for running electric......or if anyone has a steel building hook up.....holla atcha gurl

 

There's no substitute for good snow tires and patience. You can't do much about the other Yahoos on the road but if you've got grip and take your time, there's nothing else you have to worry about for yourself.
