Plus, the adverts that you see in the Sunday paper for a $10k garage is for the walls, siding, windows/doors, and roof. Doesn't include sitework, permits, foundation, electrical, any interior finishing, etc. It's literally just for a weathertight shell.

I could afford so much more house if I didn't need storage for the toys and a yard for the dogs

My buddy just did an addition on his house smaller than 600sq ft and it cost $30k even though he built it himself. I bet the dirtwork and slab will be $8k alone for 600sf.

I just made sure when I was house hunting that everything I looked at had a big garage. I ended up with one that's 28X32, and it's still not big enough. :notsure:

I need to see if I can rent an apartment in Somerville with a garage. That would be amazing!

Yeah I tried that, my realtor has given up so we're looking for properties with enough land to add

Did my first attempt at flooring over the weekend. A little disappointed how a few of the boards where cut well from the factory. Only find out they are unable to fit perfect after half is nailed down. Must have been 5-10% had a funky taper and could not be persuaded into position to my satisfaction. Maybe it's the cheap Home Depot kiln dried oak. It seems crappy to drop 1k on materials to have so much firewood.

I got lucky with mine, since it was pretty much exactly what I was looking for. A foreclosure property without major structural damage, on a decent-size piece of land, with a garage, in the country, for under 100K. The fact that it was on a dead-end road was just gravy.
Finding the right place is like hitting the jackpot, except that you pay lots of money instead of getting lots of money, lol.

Jeezus I need to move to Maine! A 1/4 acre lot that is basically in a ravine goes for 100k on cape. the foreclosed 3bd house behind mine with a 2 car garage and water damage/mold on less than 1/4 acres is listed for 350k. Gf and I love the house wish I could swing it.

i can live anywhere as long as it's close to 95 or the pike. but i essentially need 3 garage spaces, yard for the dogs, won't do septic or well, won't live near train tracks airport school or fire department, won't live on a main road, and i don't want to have to put a ton of money into the house

In North Chatham, there recently was a house that sold for over 1 million with water views. The new owners knocked it down and then spent a few more building a giant house on this little lot.

Yeah, I picked mine up for $95k. Just under 3 acres of land, 2200 square feet, with the garage and an 8X10 garden shed. It had been abandoned, so most of the domestic water lines had frozen and burst in places, but the boiler and the heat system were full of antifreeze so we caught a break there. I spent about a week after work fixing pipes and patching drywall to get it to pass the mortgage inspection, but that was well worth it for what we saved on the house.

$350k for a foreclosure is just nuts
