Ok, need more advice about my parking brake sticking... I brought it in to Groove last week and they took a look and tore apart the drum (mostly seems like driver rear wheel is not moving) but didn't see anything that could be causing it to freeze. I have only set it once since then (Friday night) but I forgot to go out and check until about noon on Saturday. By that time was much warmer outside so it wasn't very stuck and it freed up after I popped the clutch once. Last night I specifically didn't set it as I knew it was going to be cold today, but when I got to work I spaced out and pulled the brake. Now my truck is basically stuck in my parking space... I can get it to move by burning the clutch/ using 4lo/ engaging diff lock, but just barely and as soon as I get off the gas/ depress the clutch it stops like I just pulled the brake. The weirdest part to me is that I can drive almost entirely normally in reverse- wheel doesn't seem to be locked or anything- it also seems weird that it stuck as soon as I pulled it as opposed to freezing after sitting all night...

Sorry for the novel, but is there something other than the parking brake I could be missing? Would it be normal for it to drive fine in reverse but not in first? (I know @BDN said it should be easier in reverse, but it seemed weird to me that there seems to be no resistance at all?) And anyone have any suggestions for freeing it up so I can get home? I hit the backing plate with a hammer but it didn't seem to do much good...

As an aside, when I took it in last week they showed me that the outer layer of the cable sheath had a little nick in it, but it didn't look like it went thru the second layer to the actual cable so we mostly ruled out moisture getting into the cable and freezing there.

Depends on how much total lift you are going to end up with. The 2nd gens seem to be happy around 1.5 degrees of correction per inch of lift.

Keep in mind that the shackle flip will give you some lift but also is going to correct the pinion angle slightly at the same time since its moving the rearmost mount of the leafs down.

Sounds exactly like a frozen cable to me. Try a hair dryer on the cables and see if they un-stick

Ok thanks, I'll do that. So you would guess the problem is that moisture got into the cable and then froze? Is there a fix for that other than replacing it? Also, if it makes a difference, when I pulled the cable this morning the first 90% of the pull seemed normal, and then the last 10% was harder to pull/ sounded slightly "weird" (not very helpful I know...). Out of curiosity, how would it be frozen immediately after I put the brake on?

Thanks for the reply, I really appreciate the help.

Think about it this way. You are stronger than the return springs in the drums. You could pull through the added friction but the return springs can't. They might be frayed instead of frozen also. Did you lift your truck?
