I bought a OR because I'll mod mine down the road, if I wasn't going to mod, I would have gotten the PRO

As far as I know its basically a 1" lift but is essentially factory rated.

The hatred is strong in this thread.

Was also in a similar bought (buying my first NEW vehicle ever) at 33 years old and went with the Pro. Absolutely love it, especially since we got a dump of snow yesterday. Love being able to get around with minimal hassle even with stock gear.

Others are correct in that if you take the time and invest the same money you can get more truck going custom but the value won't hold for resale like a Pro. I didn't have the time yet to worry about custom and am loving the decision so far.

If you are planning on doing any mods then I would get the OR. Pro is nice and all but will be kind of pointless if you rip that suspension off and go aftermarket since the only functional aspect of the Pro is the suspension. If you want leather in an OR, you can buy Clazzio seat covers that look factory, there is a big thread about them and they look amazing. The Pro is basically a bunch of plastic badging and slightly better suspension, if thats all you need, go for it. The good thing about the Pro is its all under Warranty.

That's my thoughts. I have two children 10-15. So between them and travel nursing I'm all over the place. I want to be able to load up with a nice rack or cab on the back with a bunch of gear and head for trails in NH, ME, and VT when the opportunity arrises. The other nice aspect of a pro would be that if I did all the work myself, would I be battling with drive quality, alignment etc. which I wouldn't care about if this was a weekend warrior but I will literally be driving highway almost daily with it most days 50+ miles to work. So no, if I were to go pro it's because I want the underside to be ready out of the gates. up top I'll add some goodies. only real concern is that the suspension isn't adjustable and may not be able to handle the added weight of aftermarket bumpers rear tire swing etc... Although I like the idea of the longer bed. I don't know Id be tackling anything too severe where length would be the issue. maybe I just have to do a little more research to see if i could find a set up reasonably priced that maintains great ride quality. Started to look at OME, icon, and now Kings. so confusing.w where is the one place that sais, "here put these components on your truck and it will kick ass"!!!!

That would be my concern as well. I think the GVWR is 5600 and the curb weight is around 4500 so you really only have 1100 pounds to work with for passengers, gear, and aftermarket parts. For my truck, theres bumper, winch, sliders, and plates which had up to over 500lbs. Add myself wife and dog theres another 500 lbs.

Try getting some warranty repair on aftermarket parts lol. Get the Pro. The Pro setup is similar to any other aftermarket coilover. Unless you're going LT with secondary bypass cage bed and all.

If your a mechanic or your buddy is one. You like tuning your ride get the OR. If not get the pro period. First and foremost take both for a ride.

I struggled with this question a LOT before buying a pro. Mostly because I can't stand to pay sticker price on a vehicle. I love haggling those bastards down to the last cent.
But the thing that ultimately tipped my decision was insurance coverage.
It's a pain to get high-dollar aftermarket parts properly insured (usually have to get an extra policy), and in the possible event that the vehicle is ever totaled I'd prefer to avoid the inevitable argument over how much it was all worth factoring depreciation, etc.
So I paid a premium to keep it simple.

You will be hard pressed to get all your $$ back on a tricked out OR ( upgraded suspension, bigger tires, wheels leather, etc.) Just remember when you trade it in, and sits on the lot as a used Taco... its not likely the buyer for a used truck is going to pay for those upgrades at a premium.
If you want to get the upgraded components on the Pro and have the value of the truck stay high, get the Pro... pay the extra $$.
But the OR will pretty much do all you want to do !

Edit- looks like jdiro and I are saying the same thing.

Yep- you can build up an OR to be bigger and more capable than a Pro at the price of (or even less than) one. This is all likely true.

However, you'll get NONE of that back in ROI... best you could hope for is returning the mods to stock prior to trade-in/sale and selling the used parts- and time is money too for some.

The insurance cost/challenge of modification point is also relevant.

    So here's my thinking:
If a modest capability truck will suffice, the Pro cost more but will retain way more value and therefore is a better investment.

If your quest is as big and capable as possible, an OR modded to the max is the obvious choice- but recognize the value trade off.

Personally, I think most people here way overbuild for what they actually need, and "taller/bigger" is perceived better without addressing the underpinning gears, engine, tranny, and frame needs of such a build...

A proper tire equipped Pro would likely go 99 of the 100 places an overbuilt OR would go- while maintaining way more value.

My Pro is big enough. I'm adding an 275/70 tires, SSO Bumper and winch, dual batteries, sliders and skids. I'm more than confident this truck will get me through the zombie apocalypse.

Here is the way I see it. If you have the money buy the PRO. If you have the money and want a more capable truck then the PRO, buy the OR and customize it. But dont forget, every dollar you drop into an OR( lift, tires, etc... ) you wont get back no matter what anyone on here says. Atleast with the PRO you will recoup some of it. I mean shit look at 2nd gen PRO, they are unicorns , hard to find and command top dollar, the same will happen to the 3rd gen me thinks. I love the look of the PRO so I am impartial in some ways.

But honestly, like others are saying, there is no place a PRO can go that an OR can't.

I don't think the additional functionality (if there is any) of a PRO is worth the cost but that grill sure is cool. If all you care about is performance, get the OR and make your own upgrades.

34K is a BS price. Have heard that number getting thrown around these forums, but in the real world you wont get close to that around me or most parts of the country.

Big turnoff for me was no sunroof. other than that I would have went with pro. glad it doesn't have one though ... because I would have spent an extra 4 grand. sunroof is the main reason I went with the taco over the colorado. if the sunroof option isn't important go with the pro.
