oh no....TSB-0171-16 Driveline vibration

looks like i'm going to be busy for a while with this one.

sweet.. looks like this is something some 3rd gen owners have complained about. Good job Toyota. (I will say.. its about time)

 

I'm hoping there will be a TSB for the transmission slamming into a lower gear during braking.

 

Why would this apply only to the trucks with automatic transmissions? Nothing about it seems to be specific to the transmission and manual transmission trucks suffer from the same problem.

 

What's the proposed fix?

 

TSB shows new leaf packs and a steering wheel damper.

I agree with @fdbyrne , it's odd to exclude manuals.

My 2013 does that. If I touch teh brake pedal going downhill it kicks it down 2 gears to save the brakes from what I was told. It does not want to upshift unless I bounce the lever from 4th back into OD. Ive gotten so used to doing it now I dont really think about it.

Interesting it says not applicable to any off road....did all 2016 TRDORs already have the springs?

 

2017 DCSB OR with Manual Trans here with the driveline vibe under braking... I can live with the vibration (for now), would be nice to feel like ABS isn't kicking in almost every single time I come to a stop.

 

So this only apply to 4wd?

 

They will tell you it's normal operation..had a regional rep driving my truck this am with me in the passenger seat. He said "that's what these 6 speed trans do"

I've felt this for a while now, thought maybe it was the drums. But the TSB points to
my exact issue when coming to a stop right about 30mph till I stop it shudders. Just
made an appt @ the dealer, I'll have to ride with a master tech, he'll evaluate and decide
if he feels what I do, then order the appropriate parts then reschedule for the repair.

 

Any ideas if having aftermarket leaf packs and u-bolts would make you ineligible for this TSB?

 

So this TSB doesn't apply to the TRD off-road model trucks? I have an OR and I am experiencing this exact problem

 

Is this issue only related to the auto trans? Still on the fence of moving on from the FJ and keep hearing issues about the auto trans but not much on the manual tranny. Just hard to find the MT's anywhere sigh...

Also what about the 2017's? Does this TSB impact this year?

 

There is a note in there: "If the vehicle has an aftermarket suspension/body lift or leveling kit installed, this bulletin does NOT apply." Its possible that would make you ineligible.

 

Remedy for manuals: Never Stop Never Stopping.

 

Which is stupid, because I had the vibes before putting a block back there and I have it now. Hasn't gotten any better or worse with the addition of the lift.
