I flew single-pilot from Oakland to Houston today. And you know what.....it made me think.

It's a lot like flying a single-seat fighter jet, but without the missiles or the guns or the power or the performance or the roll-rate or the freedom or the visibility or the awesomeness. Other than that, it's pretty much the same.

That has to be a unique experience. I have never flown that far alone and it has been over 12 years since my last solo flight as a cargo pilot.

It is a bit strange, but also a bit liberating. Had to shoot an ILS down to 500' and while that is generally no big deal, you really have to check yourself because you are the only source of knowledge in the cockpit.

The return leg tomorrow is 4.9 hours. Think that will be my longest solo leg to date.

...^^^... I always pretended to be solo ... never wanted to be bored or sleepy ... to this day, I play "mind games" in my brain when driving on a long road trip ... i.e. doing math in my head, calculating range, lining up dots & other silly stuff.

Land vehicles are my only solo challenges today ... :)

Yep. Totally the same. Maybe you should do a barrel roll or vertical loop tomorrow just like the fighters do

Nope, never did. I might try to go after winter if I can rally up some pilot buddies
Thanks! I'll be very relieved to get them over with....and then start work the Monday I get home for Christmas break :D No down time for me!
    Alllllmost the same!
I caught myself singing to myself flying from Memphis to NW Arkansas late one night with some strong headwinds. It took FOREVER and there was hardly any other traffic on the radio. I got real bored real fast with nothing but blackness to look at and nothing to listen to.
    I like how you think!

It is shit. Pretty much everything you're experiencing in Texas right now.
Sometimes it all catches up with you and I have to stop and think how cool it is to be sitting above 40,000. Especially at night when the stars are huge!
    I don't usually forget I'm flying a jet though.
    .75 :pout:
    Thanks!

I love how close the taxiways are to the ramp in Houston.
