'15 DC front door speakers

2015 Double Cab, want to replace lower door speakers to start the audio upgrade, one step at a time. Couple questions: Replace with 6 X 9's or 6.5's ? What is the difference in audio quality?

I don't plan on updating the "tweeters" on the front doors at this time.

I I think if you replace just the door speakers it won't sound as good as stock because you're not using an amp.
I bought a whole new speaker set up with sub box, sub and amp from Mr. Marc for my 2015. It sounded awesome. But Took it out six months later because I traded for a 2016. Now the sub box will not fit in my 2016 because of the vent that runs along the back wall. So if you're interested in the whole set up let me know

 

Why not just have @Mr Marv make you a new box for your '16?

 

Well that's what I was planning on, but I not sure if I want to try to stuff the 12 inch sub in the back. The vent that runs along the back wall will not allow him to build as tall of a box. I think it would be better if I went with a 10 inch sub as opposed to a 12 inch sub but not sure if I want to spend the money and as I really wanted to lift the truck first. My 16 has a JBL system which complicates things even more because you have to keep the factory amp.

 

How much difference are you expecting? The stock hu isnt good but up to 15w x4 probably. You might gain some clarity but will lose out on bass. Going to 6.5 components brings up the quality on both ends but will need at least a 40-50w x4 source to really benefit.

Id start with a new HU or adding an amp first.

 

I installed my speakers amp and sub that was with the stock head unit and it sounded awesome
I wanted to keep the stock head unit so no one knew I had a system plus to keep all integrated steering wheel controls

JUst to confirm, doing speakers alone, not adding an amp at this time, will result in lower sound quality?

All things equal, you're better off with the 6x9 because of its higher cone area - especially in an install without a sub. A speaker won't sound better because it's round. What you trade is compromise in the way of options. There are some very nice 6x9 offerings out there, but they will cost you. Lots more available in a 6.5ish inch driver. You really want to change your tweeter with the woofer though. They sorta work together.

It might - all depends on what you put in there. Maybe consider expanding your first step to include an amp. That along with some decent drivers probably wouldn't disappoint for a subless system.

 

I have been all over YOUtube today watching every durn install/speaker/sub/amp, etc. installation.
Lots of info there but most goes over my wee brain. OK. Throw some 6X 9 brand/model suggestions my way. also amp suggestions. Budget is limited. Thanks for your previous replies.
