Thanks! It's gonna look sweet. Hopefully we start building it after the holidays.

Side note: have you guys heard of green light leds being more efficient in dust/snow over amber?

Yeah I've been hearing green is more visible through dust. To me it's brighter than amber and I'd be able to see it easier and quicker through yellow dust on a sunny day. I think I'm going to use green covers and ask people's opinions

Biggest things I can see is it wouldn't necessarily be 'cheaper'. Maybe for someone who doesn't have a welder, but it will take more time to line up the holes, drill the holes and hardware.

I also don't see an easy way to bolt all the pieces together in a design like @swalters has. Maybe do it in sections, i.e. front, back, and sides. Saves on shipping, but why not just finish welding everything together?

The other issue is figuring out a way to make sure water doesn't get on the inside and rust it away from having holes open to the inside of the metal. I guess one could use some sort of grommet to help with that on all the bolts, but here in AZ that will probably disintegrate every summer if left outside.

    You're alive?

I understand that, but seeing as I don't have access to a welder, I was kind of just shooting around ideas. I could get aluminum pretty cheap so rust wouldn't be an issue but water proofing would still need to be addressed. If I were to go this route, that would be my main concern as compared to finding ways to bolt it together. With the right set of hardware, I think I could get it to be pretty sturdy but that does nothing if there's a rough cut somewhere, allowing for water.

I'm talking to a local welding company about getting one put together and I'm going by their shop next week, my mind just began to wonder on whether or not a bolt together would be practical. I also understand that going this route will be very boxy and not really good looking at all but I care more about functionality for this.

Yep. Just a matter of making it water tight. That is what gets tough.

I'm out of ideas besides welding some sections of it some how.

So on our 99 4Runner, the fuse for the 4 way flashers and horn keep blowing. Any ideas?

I had that happen and it ended up being my blinker wires were grounding out. I had modified my blinkers to work with my ARB and it was grounding on the frame.

I know everyone is a huge SCS fan but what do you guys think about the Level 8 MK6s in gunmetal? There's a set for sale locally for below half the price of a set of SCSs

    SCS or nothing...

I love SCS and helps they are local, but Level 8 are great wheels and 1/2 price is definitely worth it. I would go for it, just have Vin send some SCS stickers to cover the ugly 8 on their center cap...haha

I really want to get a set of Ray10s but they aren't in stock and I hate paying $100+ for shipping. I like the fact that it is a small business but yet again, it comes down to shipping and the cost. I know the seller of the Level 8s and he hasn't had them but 3 months, they clear tundra brakes, and no shipping costs.

Those center caps would not be going on haha, I'd be ordering some TRD ones

Yeah the free pick up really helps with buying SCS. I would just go with the Level 8's and run them for a while, then you can decide if it's worth the cost for SCS as you probably could turn a profit on the Level 8's eventually.

I'm thinking that's the way to go, especially with Christmas money around the corner

I needs dem sterile FJs. Bending back a steel wheel is doable a hundred miles from pavement. On an allow, nopers. However those SCS wheels are certainly sexy. I'm just a function over form kinda guy. Sure, alloys can be bent back but that requires heat, a heavy boom stick, and a 2x4. Here's mine. Structual integrity of an allow is lost after that repair happens. I only did it because I needed a spare in a pinch.
