Convert the pad to a fast charger? Has that been done? <Googles frantically>

I use it with a GS7 in a cheap thin case. Works flawlessly in the corner nearest the passenger seat every time.

It is actually pretty fast (for a wireless charger). I wish it was slower because it heats the phone more than I would like (~100F). At home my wireless charger heats it only to ~85F. Charging a hot battery shortens its life.

I have been trying to think of what I could put between my phone and Qi charger in the hope of slowing it down but that might still conduct heat away from the phone rather than insulate it.

Been done? Probably not. There always has to be a first.

Charging slower is actually related to it heating up. The bulk of the heat isn't coming from the battery, it's coming from the charging coil getting a non-ideal em field pulse. basically, youre not setting your phones coil directly over the pads coil, or at the perfect height. so its inefficient and causing heat losses.

Mine doesn't heat up my phone very much when it's in a case. Much less than 100F. But I take it out of the case and it charges faster and gets much hotter.

My charger doesn't work when its very cold outside. I get flashing yellow and green lights. If I shut the truck off and start it up again after the cab is warm it works again.

    Have you actually measured?
    Or going by feel?

Because most cases are made of a good insulator, while most wireless charging phone backs are made of a material that conducts heat quickly. Think of touching a piece of black cloth in the summer sun... And a piece of black anodized aluminum. The cloth will feel warm while the aluminum may burn you. It's not always just a temp difference, but a conductivity difference.

I actually love the wireless charging with my IPhone 6. I've been using the case below daily for the last several months. In addition to not having wires in the truck, the battery also adds 50% more battery life. I get home from work every day with lots of juice left and never plug in. No more lightning cables for me!

I can hit the phone with the laser today and find out. But I was checking the actual phone temp, not case temp. It's definitely less with the Otter case on than off.

Incorrect. While it's not Samsung's proprietary wireless fast charging, it doesn't take 8 hours for a charge.

I just checked at 85% battery on my S7 Edge, it estimated 29 minutes to a full charge and it's generally charging slower the closer you are to 100%. If it were to keep that same rate, it would only take a bit over 3 hours to charge from dead.

Several weeks ago I was around 25% and charged the phone on a 1 hour trip from my in-laws. It went up to over 65% in that time frame, so 40% in an hour which is pretty damn good compared to the extremely slow charging you get hooking up to the pathetic 1 amp USB outlets most cars have, and a hell of a lot simpler to boot. Only downside is, ever. single. time. I forget to grab my phone getting out and have to go back for it.

Since the charge rate is very dependent upon how well placed you are on the charger, make sure you're lining up the phone to the passenger side rearmost corner of the mat. That seems to line up the S7E perfectly. My TPU case doesn't seem to impact it significantly, and holds the phone perfectly steady so it doesn't slide around.

Google your phone model and "wireless charging". Someone makes a case or an adapter.

I've been happy with this iphone7 Qi case: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01M346Q8T

It works well with this magnetic mount / Qi charger: https://www.amazon.com/Wireless-Nillkin-Charging-Universal-Qi-Enabled/dp/B01N52QATC

Plugged into a 2.4A capable USB port I see around 12-14% charge per twenty minutes. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B018DHQJQU

I haven't timed anything using the truck's Qi pad.

When I have some time in the next couple of weeks I will do photos and a write-up of my mashup frankencharger where I mated the above vent clip to a Scosche Magic Mount. :)

I was excited as well, but my hopes and dreams were short lived when I discovered it doesn't work with the iPhone... I bought a ram mount and just use the standard cord charger.

Oh I'm definitely not going to be the first. I'd either fry my phone or burn my truck to the ground.

Nexus 6 and use it every day. My Spigen case with the kick stand didn't charge very well on it. Charged for a few seconds then didn't, then did. But now my thinner Spigen case with a black rubber back charges great. I still have the QuickCharge v2 USB adaptor when it needs a boost.

Went to a big auto show recently and bought a new "Power Case" for my antique apple 5-S. when the phone needs to be charged and I happen to be away from cords, plugs or my vehicle I push the button on the back of the case and it charges my phone. So far it's the best 75 bucks I've ever spent.

I use the same Mophie charging case. Works great. Highly recommend Mophie cases. No more cables and plugs. It does get warm, but no hot.
