Step 1, find open slot. Step 2, make USB fit into slot. Step 3, decide if you want the USB hot all the time or not. Step 4, add power from source decided. I have the same USB port. Made a box for my light controls and USB power for my CVT Tent. Simple addition. Red is positive, black is negative.

No, it is not a plug and play install you need to find power from something. Ground is easy. Just run a wire to the body somewhere. Lots of ground points.

is there one for the center area by the audio jacks? I've been looking for a wall socket or usb that fits clean and looks stock there. i know this irrelevant to your post but i didn't know if you ran across something

Have you done much electrical work before? Are you comfortable with it? Maybe find a friend to help that is. Answer step 3 listed above and then decide where to run the wires.

If hot all the time you can bring in a new power lead from the Battery.
If On-when key on only, then you can tap the Cig Outlet (both + and -)

An add a fuse to the fuse box to the circuit type of your choice will work too.

they can be made to be constant. then you could just tap into them and be set. I do like the add-a-fuse option though and having less piggy-backing going on.

I prefer not to run my Starting battery dead because I charged my phone with my truck off. Same goes for other accessories.

there are downsides, yes. ive only had a problem with a dead battery once and that's because a plug in heated seat was left on for a loooong time.
