One day when I grow up and get the PCI or Rugged hardmounted HAM Im looking at I'm drilling right through the roof. Cool thing about the units im looking at is they have a rubber o-ring that sits nicely between the two piece antennae which sandwiches the skin of the roof. No silicone needed. Clean, easy, and peezy.

Still forced! Lol. I thought about that and looked it up. When I went to correct it with the moderators they had already changed it. My plates will be correct.

Probably after Christmas I will have time to get out there.

I'm real close to putting an IC-7100 in my Tacoma. Like this antenna mount for 2 meters in the roof.

The one you are talking about sounds better with O rings. Do you have link?

These are the 3 options I'm looking at. None of which are cheap but I threw cheap components out the window when I got sucked into this money pit from the day I bought Kings. Haha.

The components from PCI are better. Rugged has more functionality and a bit more power. I'm probably going to go Rugged because I want to be able to have programmed channels and frequency mode. Can't change frequencies on the icom without having them program; although I'm sure there's ways of defeating that. Icom is just VHF while the Rugged is dual band.

I want an intercom in my truck eventually. Caged trucks are so loud.

I tried to self study and got discouraged. I felt like everything I read was over my head. I decided to try the class and it was great. They kept the lessons at a level where it was easy to learn. I suggest the class for those that are discouraged.

I took my general test in Cerritos. Did they have a cool F1 car model in the lobby?

Took my test at the Veterans Hospital where I work. Super cool retired radio men give the test. I had no idea what I was doing. Maybe being a veteran myself helped me some. lol

When I was studying for my license I always felt there was too much electronic theory for the Tech. license. The Navy taught me electronics so it was no problem. But in todays microprocessor controlled radios I think the technician license should concentrate operations. Antenna theory and matching is good but do you really need to know how capacitor or inductor works...

Word. My pal just checked and the 60 watt Rugged is only VHF. Dang it. I really want dual. Also, what was cool about it is its one of the only radios that allows the the headset and speaker on the actual radio to work at the same time. So if you stop you can take your head set off, throw it on the seat without having to unplug and the actual radio speaker still works so you dont have to be plugging in and plugging out which I know for you race truck guys is super convenient. I dont have a real need for a headset. Although I am getting more and more truck noises. Still on the fence which to go with: PCI or Rugged. I just want as power/range as possible. @Crom has mentioned he has been able to transmit up to 125 miles I believe by defeating a resistor in his radio or something like that. Super impressive move that I have to look into considering I'm not always going to be with someone else on longer overland trips. I'd like to pick his brain a ton. Haha

You can jump in on it too. They probably offer the test at a VA closer to you. There's West LA VA and Long Beach VA. Or take the test hear and we can hit a trail after. Boom! Just threatened you with a good time.
