Please read my posts, they go back to 2010 explaining these poorly named features.
    Briefly:

    1) AUTO LSD is a 2WD system. In H4 it is called TRAC OFF, which means TRAC with engine output regulation turned off.

    2) You get TRAC in L4 not A-TRAC with the non Off Road Tacoma 4WD mod, called the 4 LOW TRAC MOD or the "Yellow Wire Mod".

No, the traction control in 4WD HIGH (TRAC and TRAC OFF) works on ALL 4 tires. That is why it is seriously great to have on the Tacoma, especially if the bed is empty and all the weight is over the front tires.

That is what I did wrong I think I got impatient and didn't try pressing the button again to turn it on?

David, that is what I want to figure out. How to get the Auto LSD without engine regulation? When I started breaking loose engine would shut down. Some situations you can easily get through without 4Hi by simply just staying on the gas and not letting the truck shut you down.

TRAC OFF is the 4WD HIGH mode and AUTO LSD is that mode for 2WD.
Keep in mind all tires in 4WD are getting power and it is the limited slip system that helps transfer more power from the spinning tire to the traction tire by braking the spinning tire (and in TRAC by cutting the engine power, as rev'ing isn't helping when you lose traction).

Only A-TRAC or locking differentials do a perfect or near-perfect job of balancing power 50/50. Only the Off Road TRD has those.

I tried reading that post a week ago or so, I got all confused and figured I would just go out and try.. and fail miserable haha

2)What are your thoughts on the Yellow Wire Mod? I honestly feel I am never in 4L situations to where I need it...

AUTO LSD is not supposed to have engine regulation, that is the one thing that separates it from TRAC in H2. Make sure your AUTO LSD light is on when you try that. If you have 4WD, skip the AUTO LSD and be kind to your truck!

Haha alright fine. I will skip the e-locker (for now) learn the system I have and see how I like it..

Just as a note when my AUTO LSD light is on I also get the VSC light just to the left also on, that normal?

Even better! Toyota needs to fire whoever makes decisions for the human interface on these things. Calling it Auto LSD in 2WD and then the same functionality (using brakes to control torque transfer) a different name in 4WD is just fucking stupid!

Actually, to me, this works just as well or better than a true locking rear diff that takes manual intervention to engage. I don't do much of any offroading, and would be using more for snow or the OCCASIONAL off camber flexed out situation.

Here are the charts from Toyota that helped back in 2009. Changes were made in 2012. I have asked for the 2012 versions, but have not seen them.

    Seriously, right?

I just added the 2009 charts and you can see they are really having a hard time with the names AUTO LSD and TRAC OFF for the same thing! To keep it confusing, they made TRAC in H4 the same as TRAC OFF but didn't call it TRAC OFF until 2012 with a button push and a light for it!

To add to this mess, I cannot see the note that AUTO LSD hasn't any engine regulation... so maybe there is some making it a tad different than TRAC OFF in H4, which the chart shows has no regulation.??

Well I can just add confusing trac control system to my list of issues with Toyota haha. I love my Taco but I hate the issues I have... But a positive note I will definitely try these modes and see how I like it.

The total possible driving modes are:
    1) H2 TRAC
    2) H2 AUTO LSD
    3) H2 VSC OFF

    4) H4 TRAC*
    5) H4 TRAC OFF*
    6) H4 VSC OFF

    7) L4
    8) L4 A-TRAC
    9) L4 REAR LOCKED
    10) L4 A-TRAC + REAR LOCKED

    1-3: All Tacomas
    1-7: 4WD Tacomas
1-10: 4WD OFF ROAD TRD Tacomas

    * 2009-2011 Tacomas did not have a selectable TRAC OFF mode. TRAC in H4 then was the same as TRAC OFF and the standard mode.

VSC OFF mode is both VSC and TRAC off. [I find no use for this mode, personally]
AUTO LSD is also VSC OFF to 30 mph when VSC is back on.
AUTO LSD and TRAC OFF require a quick push of the VSC OFF button.
VSC OFF requires the vehicle be stopped, then press and hold in the button until light comes on (about 3-5 seconds).

AUTO LSD and TRAC OFF are both the stronger limited slip. Use if you get tire spin in standard TRAC mode.

This thread got too large. I'm going to quote indidually now...
Third Gens Auto Off Roads don't have an ATRAC. MTS is five settings of ATRAC based on braking strength

Correct, unless you have a manual transmission.

third gen does not have a yellow wire mod possible. We are CANBUS so one box controls everything in the 4 wheel drive system. There are some guys looking into it but it doens't look good.

There is no engine regulation when in Auto LSD on the third gen. When the wheels want to spin, it fires off the ABS and does not restrict engine power

    I think that's normal but I can't remember

Good to know before I rip it apart. I think for now I need to learn the systems I have before I try cutting wires to get something I probably wont use haha
