How much of a difference is it going to make if I fill the rear smoothbody shocks with nitrogen at ride height as opposed to fully extended?

a ton...as soon as the shock extends past that point your going to have an air gap in there and it will cause the oil to foam up ( IE: get carbonated looking ) which you can't fix without taking the shock apart to dump the oil and replace it.

Well looks like I'm going to have to replace the oil in both shocks now :bananadead::frusty:

In theory though wouldn't the nitrogen just decrease a small amount in pressure once the shock is extended fully if filled at ride height?

Finally got my suspension all put together. Was trying to go for a budget kind of build and ended up with
    Icon Extended travel ($600)
    LR UCA's ($125)
    24" extended brake lines ($60)
    Bilstein b110 ($190)
    Deaver u402 ($250 plus re-arching $150)

I like to think I did a good job. But does this all put me in the mid-travel club now? Lol.

Hoping to get the BAMF shock relocate by next summer. I want to get more armor first.

Also, with a full tank of gas, my rear driver side sits about an inch lower than the passenger side. Should I switch the leaves around or does it not matter? I know the driver side is heavier but I didn't think it would make an inch of difference.

Spent a lot of time lurking on this thread. Thanks for all the help/advice

Skip the BAMF shock relocate and go with a better shock mount where you can fit 14" shocks

The clearance is the same as the BAMF kit, you'll need 3.5 Backspacing or more for your wheels

@Rattletrap66 Without cluttering up your other thread, Curious if you noticed any flex on those towers at all? I couldn't see well if the back part of the tower overlaps on to the top of the frame like the BAMF towers do or not. I'm sure they're fine for low speed stuff, but wonder what kind of flex you'd see for anything high speed or hard hits.

Those shock towers don't overlap on top of the frame unless you add bracing yourself

I didn't notice any flex but then again I am not doing any high speed stuff. The mounts don't wrap around the top of the frame but there is more surface area along the side of the frame than the BAMF towers. Maybe I'll mount a go pro under there and see if I can get some shots of it cycling

Please! Like I said, I'm sure they're great for everyday use, just personal curiosity if it's a viable source for someone wanting to go spring under or something and keep the shocks out of the bed, as opposed to a shock hoop or something

Hey guys, I'm thinking about upgrading my LCAs, and would love to hear some differing opinions from other MT and even LT guys. Weighed my truck a couple months while on a trip in Oregon, and she came out to about 6,400 lbs loaded up. With all the extra weight, the main weak point up front seems to be the LCA ball joints. I've been researching the different LCAs available, and would love to hear from anyone who has stock-length aftermarket LCAs, and their experience with them. Slightly better articulation, ground clearance, uniball vs stock ball joints? Any info is helpful. Thanks guys!
