Thanks, I've never read or heard of a manual going into limp mode. I guess it could limit my rpms but not my transmission being that it is manual.

I did the Uni filter too, but can someone tell me if this filter needs to be oiled?
I read on their website it did not, but when i got the filter the paper with it said it did?

    TIA!

the filter is not made for a secondary injection system
it is made for a small 2 or 4 stroke motor...so it would need oil if used as intended

for secondary air injection it just needs to keep
big particles out. micro dust that would harm an engine
is ok. [the default secondary air filter is a cheesy foam piece]

    Ok, thanks Man!

I took the foam pc. out of the canister...it was fine btw and the plastic fan
looked new, so no worries, just some additional piece of mind.

So, this may sound like a newb question, but is replacing this filter a fairly straight forward job? When I get my rig back, I am thinking replacing the filter could be an easy inexpensive insurance?

Super simple. Remove screw from the top of the pump, pull out the foam and replace cover back then slip on the filter. Done.

Update on my repair: Just picked it up last night, dealership here in Raleigh, replaced the pump, valves, and I believe some hosing. The tech I have been dealing with was super great. Did everything under warranty, and said they would also contact Toyota about this problem. He said anyone with this issue should be 100% covered under 5yr/60k Warr.

I haven't looked at the new pump yet, but I am assuming it has a similar foam filter in it just like the original, but I will check. That said, is it worth removing whatever filter is in there, and clamp on the Uni Filter? Is there any chance messing around with these parts spits out those damn error codes again?

Anyway, thanks for all the help.

Hey, didn't notice you were in Raleigh, i'm up in Wake Forest.

I've had no code issues since i did the Uni...maybe 3 months ago?
Btw, If you decide to do it, the fastener on the top of the canister is a T-25 bit.

    Good luck.

Hey all, just an FYI, I ran the Hewitt tech delete kit in my 2012. It worked fine for a while but then the engine light came back on. Typically in cold weather (10*C or below) the engine light would not come on. Soon as the weather warmed up engine light would come back on. However, it did NOT put it into limp mode. Basically I just got used to my check engine light being on all the time... Toyota also wanted $2000 to fix mine but as I was talking to the service manager, a tech came out from the shop and told my about the delete kit. It was the cheap alternative but wasn't perfect.

Ok, great. So far so good. Sounds like the Uni is a pretty easy install. I'll make sure I have that bit. I think this whole air pump storm has just hit, so it should be interesting as the rest of the 2012's come up upon 50k.

    Great Info. Thanks.
I think I may be lucky having a dealership that was extremely cooperative about the warranty.

I have a 2005 Tacoma, took it in yesterday and got diagnosed with the same problem. Picture attached below, there gonna charge me $1300 my truck seems to be running fine. Is there any alternatives to the solution, would it be easy to install the parts myself?

Shouldn't this be part of the emissions? If so, it should be covered per law until 100,000 miles, shouldn't it?

I'm not sure what pump yours has, but I think only 2012 & up have the secondary air injection pump.

I believe 2.7L - 4 cyliders have the pump from 2005 to current.

I have not looked at how the 4cyls are set up but it's not hard to replace if you can access the pump and the valves. Should still be on top of the engine somewhere and you can buy the parts for a lot less than going through the dealership.

It's not under warranty already checked.

Where would suggest I buy the parts, anyone have a write up for the install? Thanks

Google OEM Toyota parts and see who has the lowest pricing. It's nothing really technical, it's bolt off, bolt on type of procedure.

1995 and newer vehicles are covered for 8 years/80,000 miles for primary emission controls regardless of how many owners. Vacuum pump and the valves are in the list of covered parts according to the EPA rules.
