My supervisor told me one day that I just got to schedule stuff and go do it. Don't wait for the perfect window to leave, you just gotta do it or you likely wont.

I hate construction lol. there is NEVER a good time for days off. even harder with these wheeling trips that I would love to go on. I have probably 15 days requested off next year already and they really frown upon last minute trips. almost like we're expected to work 6 days a week.

I just don't have enough days to take off so I can't do it.
I will definitely be in for one of those 3 day-ers

I have my license but really learned nothing. No idea how I passed. That's good info, Nick. So why does Rugged and the like push more watts? I watched a YouTube video of theirs and they mentioned more watts equates more range which according to what you're saying adding watts just throws poop crumbs of more dB in the broad scheme of things. Is there something specific to watts that benefits race teams more so than us weekend warriors? Also, can I book you say sometime in February for a good old fashioned HAM shopping date with install? Haha.

No, this class was held at the LASD office in Cerritos. What building did you take your classes in?

It's marketing speak, and it's technically wrong, IMO. Once your signal is above the noise floor and the receiving party can copy you, you're good. V/UHF is all line of sight. More power can help if your signal is weak if your down in a ditch or something. Maybe that's why they sell it that way. But I can assure you, that the difference between a 75W and a 50W radio in the field will be slim to none.

For more, read comments by Dale Hunt, in this tread

If you have your ham ticket, then I'd pass on the race radios, and get a one of the ham radios. I own a Kenwood and a Yaesu. I recommend the Kenwood TM-V71A, It's 50W on both V/UHF. You can use it for licensed ham comms, and pop that resistor out to communicate out of band for the guys with the race radios or hand held walkie talkies.

I can offer advice on install, I'm generally unavailable due to my, and my kids schedules. :-/ You can PM me, when you're close to buy/install time if you want and I'll try to help.

I agree. Most of us will be using the 2m band to ping off of repeaters. It's all good to know about transistors and resistors, but I don't think it needs to be on the test. Maybe because they thing a "Technician" should know how the tech stuff works? IDK.

I was just hoping to get the minimum 26 questions right. I missed 4 questions. Sometimes it's better to be luckier than good! HAHA.

You know exactly what I'm talking bout. It's tough to get somebody to fill your spot in the middle of a big job. Gotta love the business though. Every job is different and presents a new set of challenges.

Did you ever find out what the clunking sound was coming from your bump stops when we were in Gorman?

If want, shoot me your email address and ill send you the gpx files I have. You can compare them to what you have. I have the route with the wash out detour (which we didn't do because 4x4) and the daily routes we actually did. Each day route ends at a camp spot. Your call home slice.

I did. It was my rocksliders on driver side hitting the pinch weld. Not causing any damage cause it would barely hit it but sounded crazy in the cab.
Glad you just said that cause I keep forgeting to fix it.lol
