I'm planning on grabbing a set of new AllTerrain tires anticipating my coming trips to the Sierras this year. My first set of stock BFG AT was decent, but want something more aggressive for this winter and coming trips next summer, too. I have an Off Road 2015 on the stock suspension and stock 16" wheels.

When I put in my truck info to tire sites, they all recommend the 245/75R16.
Alternatively some indicate I could also run the wider 265 70R16s.
I'm seeing on the tire-size sticky thread that the biggest I'd be able to run would be 265/75R16, but have just seen another truck here https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/how-to-choose-an-off-road-tire.307541/ where they're running 285/75R16 with "minimal rubbing".

Is there a major difference in off-road performance? What's the truth about what i can run while stock? Is there a major difference in price or tire availability? I'm recenlty searching by size instead of "vehicle" and just need to know what I'm looking for.

think I like the BFG KO2 tires, but not sure what's a fair price or the appropriate size for my situation.

I put on General Grabber's the first week we got out 2012 ACLB 4X4. We went with 265/70/16 as we did not have any lift yet, even went mild off roading with them and only very minimal rub. We have since put 5100's and songs all around for an extra 2 inches in front the 3 in the rear, and plenty of clearance now.

I hope this helps you out.

245's are the recommendations? Your truck comes stock with 265's. On stock set up, 265/75R16 will be the one you want if you're not cutting anything. 285 minimal rubbing on stock suspension is false. Even with 2.5-3" lift, they can still rub.

Just fyi, 265/75R16 on K02's will only come in E load rating which will be stiff and usually go for around $200 each or less.

Below is 265/75R16 Duratracs with no lift. The mud flaps had to come off as they rubbed on full lock as well as the small front flap. 1.6" coil lift allowed for the mud flaps back on with no rubbing.

265/75R16 is the no-fuss solution. Front mud flaps might have to go, but that is all.

265/75 16 are perfect, I have my front lifted 1.75" but you should have no issues with stock wheels.

Running 265/70/17 on FJ wheels here... Also have a 3" lift all around.

Not sure if I would ever have rubbed off road but I didn't have a chance since the suspension was FUBAR when I got it and after all the other work decided to throw a lift on it.

[Edit: added a pic for reference]

Are those the KOs? Front mud flaps are already gone.

I was planning on the bilstein 5100 sometime in the next 12 mos, also. Need to get my back end up. Saggy a little with all that weight back there all the time. If I can use the set I'll use post-lift, that's the best of all worlds.

Sumo springs are cost effective in preventing sag in the rear end and can be used with an AAL.

Perfect. I was looking at those duratracs first, but struggled to find them fitting the OEM size. Any group thoughts on the Duratrac vs KO2 decision? Costco here seems to have a deal on the KO2, but haven't seen anything sub-200 for the duratracs.

I like the Duratrac's and actually my 2nd set but I'm willing to try the new K02's or Cooper STT Pro's or Max next. We have the K02's on a 4Runner and they are quieter than the Duratracs.

Yes they are. If you plan to stuff the tires off road, lift is irrelevant to this discussion. You need clearance through the entire range of motion.

I have 265 75/16 on my rig with no issues. I like how they filled up the wheel well and I really didn't want to cut the cab mount to fit 285s yet

I've had 285/70R17 and didn't cut the cab mounts. I even bought the plates from BAMF. They do rub with a 2.5" lift off-road. I currently have 265/75R16 and thinking of trying 255/85R16 since they narrower.

I went with 267/75/16 Duratracs because I wanted a load range C....I don't believe the BFG is available in a C

After seeing this on a trail run, no Duratracs for me.

I'm hesitant abou the KO2s because of their durability. Looking at the Duratracs... there's a high load rated version. Is this where I'd get a rougher ride but additional sidewall strength? What are those tradeoffs? Appreciate all these answers, but I feel like a newb about this.

Duractracs does come in Load E and will be the firmer ride but have the additional sidewall strength.

Foglights are for fog, not oncoming traffic!
245s for traction, wider is just for looks.
The locals in the mountains will know you're a noob with the wider setup.
