You mentioned adding your headlight hoops on your bumper...how difficult would this be with aluminum? Considering the Pelfreybilt bumper without hoops and then adding a center hoop without side supports. Or would it be easier to order theirs with center hoop and side supports and then cut off the side supports?

 

Its really a matter of the aluminum welding. I am not quite to where I can do it well enough for production purposes and I have found it hard to find local places that will do it at a reasonable price. I would be happy to bend the tubes for you though. If I can get some more practice in by then I may be able to help out with the welding too. I would ask them if they can do just the center hoop for you though. Shouldn't be tough. Cutting of the supports without messing up the rest would be a pain.

 

I asked them already and they said to keep their product looking consistent they don't offer custom hoop options. Would the hoop have to be aluminum as well and where would one go about getting pipe for that? You have a machine that will weld aluminum?

 

Because I'm obsessive compulsive and prefer the look without supports. I have the early second gen and don't care for how the down tubes cross the corner of the headlights. Really isn't a big deal but would like it to look how I like it.

 

What does the center hoop need support against?

 

You can get the tubing at Wasatch Steel, or Metal Mart. I am sure it is .125 wall 1.5" or 1.75" OD aluminum tubing. I have a machine to weld aluminum (mig with spool gun) which I have a little practice with. I also am about to purchase a TIG machine but I have zero experience TIG welding aluminum. I have a bender though for both 1.5" and 1.75" tubing and it does well with aluminum.

The center hoop supports on the pelfreybilt bumper I am sure help to strengthen the center hoop in the event of a collision. Personally I would never use it as a recovery point where it is so far from the frame end. IF you were to hit someone or something that upright will bend back pretty easily without some extra support, especially where it is aluminum.

 

id be in for a set of aluminum skids when they are up on the market my friend!

I love the look of the Center hoop only more than the full hoops.

Also, Prinsu rack because why not.

Zach, I contacted CBI regarding the space we were talking about between the bumper and the cross member. They claim it should touch. Here is what they said:

"On the brackets that mount to the frame the bumper should touch the bottom of the cross member unless it was adjusted down by the customer. In that case it is fine but is recommended to use a strut washer between the bumper mount and the bottom of the frame so the bolt can be tightened down properly. If it is done this way then yes I have seen this before and it is fine as far as fitment goes. In all normal cases this part of the bumper would rest up against the bottom of the crossmember however without any space in that area."

What are your thoughts on that? Did you have yours adjusted in anyway?

 

Where the bumper mounts to the bottom of the frame crossmember are only on the outside ends. Mine is tight at those two points. In between those two points the frame crossmember arches up slightly and then flat and back down on the other side. In front of the cross member the plate part of the bumper hangs down slightly lower than the crossmember but isn't directly attached to it. It is attached to the supports for the rest of the bumper that attach back to the frame crossmember.

 

Do you have any interest in welding up some sliders? I have the 4xInnovations sliders that need to be set to determine height and angle and need to be welded. I'd be happy to pay for the time.

 

Normally I would but right now I just don't have the space or time to do it. I am currently working out of my townhouse until our house is done and my garage won't even fit a truck in it. On top of that my wife decided to get a seasonal job so my evenings are booked watching the kiddos.

Saratoga Springs/Eagle Mountain

 

Cool. My brother just moved from Texas to Eagle Mountain. They're not in Eagle Mountain city; just west of the Maverik, near Uhaul. They love it out there.

 

Yep, thats the same area we are in. We are technically within the Eagle Mountain City limits but it is more Saratoga than Eagle Mountain. The Eagle Mountain City Center is too far for me.
