I find it short bus stupid that this can only be narrowed down to unlikely vandalism, truck washing and aftermarket headlight wiring/ ballasts/bulbs causing the issue......

its a Toyota truck and that's all the modifications needed
exactly no entry point for volcanic dust or rogue waves, if there was a check engine light is thrown and would be stored in the ECU and the Dealer would know right off the bat

I'm aware. I was mechanic in another life... I was also in the parts and service industry for a bit.

The codes have all been listed in an earlier post. 1-6 injector circuit codes, TPS codes, and I did have transient evap system codes the first instance.

This time around I was getting the 1-6 injector circuits and the TPS.

I've sat here for an hour an read through all 57 pages of this thread. Maybe I'm missing something, but it's glaringly obvious to me, the OP is abusing his truck, continues to install aftermarket lights, and keeps washing an engine when he knows it blows it up when he does. After all that, he takes it out in the sand, does more "donuts, and roosts", washed the engine AGAIN, and it STILL has aftermarket lights. Then he gets on here with the "poor me' routine again. Toyota is a multibillion dollar company. They aren't looking to get out of paying for repairs that are legit. There are gray areas, but this ain't one of them. Everyone fom the porter at the dealership, to Kiichiro Toyoda has looked at his issue, and denied the claim. You can't do the shit they do on the commercials, even though I've never seen a commercial of a Tacoma driving through surf and doing roosts in the sand. If the sand fucked up your truck the first time, why the hell would you rinse and repeat again? Seriously, how is it that everyone on here doesn't see it's not Toyota, it's the OP? How about using some common sense? Stay out of the sand and surf, take out the aftermarket lights, and stop washing the freaking engine. As soon as it's running smooth, trade it for a truck that won't break when you mistreat it.

Why don't they start looking at more likely causes of failure such as the electronic system including the computer? The injectors are electronically controlled and you've had 2/3 breakdowns in the presence of water that usually doesn't mesh well with electronics. Oh and this guy is an idiot ^

You obviously haven't seen them demo these trucks, or the sales brochure. You also haven't seen the 300 other toyotas present at toyota meets doing far worse than what I've done to my truck. I rent ATVs and dune buggies to actually go out in the dunes with. Truck stays at base. I did loaf around the dunes, and drove down a few, and along the fence line. Nothing at all beyond the capabilities of any vehicle. To put it in perspective, an Audi A4 drove through the tide, splashed water over his entire car, drug the bumper through sand and surg, and then passed my truck and drove on the dunes. the Audi, went farther into the sand than me...

There's a difference in offroading for a little fun, and driving in the surf, doing roosts and donuts in the sand. Then after going through all he went through and doing it again. Dune buggy's break when you do shit like that. I know this is the wrong place to use a little common sense.

Oh, naughty me. I powerslid behind my tent.

Guess that's too much for a TRD to handle... god forbid that Expedition Overland drove a 3rd gen through the silt filled rivers in the Yukon Territory. I lived there for 14 years... nothing is more fine than Alaskan river silt, it wreaks havoc on boats even.

    TLDR...

However, there appears to be another hose coming from near the gas cap that would go to a charcoal canister. Have you checked that these hose connections are sound? Parts 13 and 9. It also looks like there could be some other hose connections not quite right too? part 14?

That's what I'm trying to figure out. If the cap was leaking at all, it would throw a code/CEL on the dash.

There are charcoal filters/breathers on the evap system. it sucks and vents air as needed, according the the toyota service manual I acquired from a toyota employee. it's some thousands page long PDF they use to diagnose trucks with all the diagrams. But even I don't believe that enough sand to disable a truck could enter through there.

The real question is, why is the fuel filter not stopping it?

Still why are people spending time trying to diagnose problems with the truck that don't make any sense - if it was a race truck no one would be wasting time with this charade about sand in the gas tank because they need to get back on the trail. I left my gas cap a little loose the other day and my truck threw a CEL so there's no way a vacuum leak big enough to let sand in is present in your fuel system that's big enough to let sand in without getting a corresponding code - either that or there is and you also have a faulty electronic system to not throw the code. If water seems to be the indicator for your issue 2/3 times it seems more likely that it is your electronic system or something other than sand in your tank.

I've been over the same diagram and more, the hoses looked sound after I got it back from the dealer the first time, and no codes indicated a leak. The dealer also hasn't ever pointed to a disconnected hose or loose end being the port of entry. The charcoal filters peak my interest however, I wonder how permeable they are.

Water has been the set off all 3 times. I agree, but the dealer doesn't listen to me.

In fact, they called me troublesome and a liar. lol.

Ive driven in the dunes at pismo. ive done donuts in sand/dirt. i thought my truck was a boat and sunk that bitch in the river. i got water inside my truck and had to rip out the carpet and let all the elctronic connectors dry thats sitting on the driver side kick panel. ive washed my truck and sprayed water all over it because you sure in hell dont want pismo sand and salt water sitting on the frame.

In conclusion ive had 0 issues... oh, i also have aftermarket led lights that have been soaked.....

Your arguement is invalid but thanks for playing.
