Sand in the tank, headlights, or electrical issues, the saga continues for the 4th time? (10/9/18)

no way charcoal canister is sealed, if it leaks CEL

 

I think I fucked up, thats not the charcoal canister. Not sure why that hose popped up when I seached for "charcoal"

 

So how is this sand, which was non-existent in my fuel door area, getting into the tank during a wash... that's the main question here.

Ever since the first issue, I've kept that area clean. I even carried a rag with my during my 5 day trip to the badlands and wiped the area down before I undid the cap. I also inspected the cap and inside the neck for signs of dirt/dust/sand. Nothing. In fact, the fuel door location stays pretty clean on its own. Not much gets in there. Hardly anything at all.

 

So it's the lemon fairy sprinkling dust into his tank I suppose. I might have believed him the first time, then he went out and did the same shit again.

 

Quit blowing money on your brand new truck and give the money to me instead. I need new tires and I'm not stupid enough to get sand in my gas tank!

Wonder about your gas cap though. I think they let air in, but not out? Presumably with air could come contamination if there is no filter or screen?

 

There are multiple charcoal filters on the 3rd gen fuel system, and they are on the vent tube, and other lines on the evap canister. The canister itself is just one unit. I have the old one sitting in the garage

I've seen them on the 2016 Tacoma service manual, but there isn't much information on them.

Does your truck throw a CEL if you leave the gas cap off? Maybe it's possible there is a leak and you have a bad sensor that won't detect a leak in the fuel system. If you have checked this please disregard.

 

I use a low pressure 40* nozzle on an electric power washer. Start with a suds bath, use 2 bucket method for wash and rinse, and then spray it down with the 40*. I also crawl underneath it and wash out the frame rails, calipers, rims, shocks, bushings, body panels and seams, etc. I also spray the under portion of the actual hood briefly, and I usually wash out the radiator and oil coolers, the rad cradle, skid plates, transmission and t case, and I spray the top of the plastic cover down. I don't hit the alt, fuse/relay boxes or the computers/ABS system.


The lease states it has to be turned in decent condition lol. I also HAD planned on buying this truck, hence the whole lease to own thing...

You can choose to pay attention to the group who shits on you or the group who doesn't shit on you. You either want to argue about it online or you want to fix it, and you're spending time arguing instead.

Your dealership is open right now and you could be discussing lease termination instead of arguing, then complaining about being argued with, and then arguing more and saying "I knew this was going to happen, keyboard warriors everywhere." You're just as guilty as anybody else is.

The keyboard warriors was directed at one person. I have not complained about arguing at all. I am here discussing the facts. I am actually in my home office working on other things preparing for a meeting here soon, that it why I'm not at the dealer. I am typing this as my printer is printing away. I am also waiting to hear back from my open case. If they will accept it this time, I won't need to start terminating leases/etc. I need to wait and make a calculated move, before I strike too quickly. I'll know in the coming days if Toyota Corp will be of assistance.
