You can't peel the clear coat off and shoot clear over it.

Why is the paint peeling...because of neglect? Is the rest of the body like this or just this removable scoop? If it's neglect like the whole body... don't do anything other than pay pro to repaint the whole body. If it's just the scoop... and you regularly protect the paint...remove it...and use duplicolor OEM match once you sanded the piece so you can prime and spray can the OEM color back on...then shoot 2K clear in a can, but it's highly toxic so you have to use a professional mask and well ventilated area. It'll be about $40 fix.

But be honest with yourself if after you do all this...will you continue your old ways or willing to wash and put sealant/coating on it. If your old ways... save your money and just enjoy the truck until you get another one. I doubt after respray it'll be a good match because it's a can of paint and old paint that's hard to match, but it'll look better.

its not from neglect lol, I use some fancy wolfgang sealant twice a year with a porter cable buffer, water will always bead on my truck for the rest of its life. Unfortunately the truck has sat out in the sun its whole life, never had a garage to store it in :(

so you suggest to sand it and paint it myself, hmm ill give it a shot then, will probably have to wait until spring when it warms up though, thanks for the help :D

If I was in your shoes... if the part is already damaged...why not just sand it and then pick a color you like...if you want it black or flat black... long as your spray can skills are good...should come out nice. The 2K clear has UV protectant in it.... The duplicolor OEM is a fairly good match... it's just if your truck has faded...it may not match 100%. If you want contrast...then black will definitely stand out and you won't have to worry about paint matching. Sun damage is brutal... just didn't want to waste your time if it wasn't taken care of... wasn't meant as offense.

Any reccomendations on bulk tire shine? Trying to find a good more cost effective tire shine that doesn't sling.

The solution for sling is to let it dry before you drive it....

    Two suggestions

One of the very limited CG products I use is the VRP dressing. I apply with a chip brush (can be bought for 50-80c each, and a foam applicator to smooth it out)
I apply two even coats, each about 30 mins apart
On the cheaper side for a gallon (about 35-40) wait for the xmas sale

If you want boutique/ high quality

    McKee 37 tire coating
This performs exceptionally well and lasts!!!
Higher price... but you get what you pay for

    Hope that helps!

both of those are an excellent choice and I have had good luck with 303 spray and wipe done and no sling....

I totally disagree with the other suggestions!! I've been using McKees 37. It's great, water based, no sling, and economical .

Edit: berserker beat me to it.

Get a tire coating. I have been having good success with Tufshine. Plan on trying McKee's next. Avoid dressings as they do not last.

For personal use I would reccomends Tufshine as well. He's looking for bulk though, so I figured it was for customers. Nothing wrong with upselling the coating option though.

Even if you did paint it, it wouldn't match the rest of the truck....and i doubt you want to do the whole hood

I've had a few tire shines that still sling even after sitting for hours

There is nothing wrong with a quality tire dressing for your production clientele
"Don't give them a steak when they ordered a hotdog" to quote Yvan Lacroix

I have tiers, of detail and at a level a coating is included in the service.
Up selling is a common technique for many, but my take is to educate and allow the client to make an informed decision for
    1. What they want for their vehicle,
    2. What investment they are willing to make
I let them know the benefit of a coating, but also that the product and time have a higher value.

    Just a side note

Really in the past few months I have seen coatings becoming more accessible, and broader in application. Just like sealants were a few years ago

I've been checking out Meguiars hyper dressing by the gallon but the reviews are so mixed, I'm not sure if its worth the $45 to buy something that might not work. So just trying to get some input from any guys that might have some knowledge of bulk tire dressings.

I have not had great results from the hyper dressing.
For that cost, it's worth it to spend 25$ more to get a higher quality
I'm happy to send some vrp for you to try... probably enough to do all 4 tires if you are interested... I will check to see if CG has samples
