They are on the rail because it's so cold to do anything else and I couldn't find the outdoor command strip hook things. When i warms up this weekend or something I will drill small holes on the bed caps that i can fit zip ties through.

    This is what I did.
Zip tied 3/4 pvc to the cleats along both sides of the bed. Didn't need to run any pipe along the cab.

On a side note, has anyone used a DMX style controller to sync the lights to blink with music? Not for while driving (Because we all know that's illegal, so of course we'd never do that)...

Like what people do when they light up their houses.

Thinking something like this on my truck:

I luv this thread about the lights, I wouldn't thought about it otherwise.

I haven't seen any on my daily commute.

big_jarv I'm borrowing your great idea about the PVC. Thanks!

Be sure you understand the law - lights on your car or truck is not illegal as long as they do not mimic lights on a police car. Rotating, high intensity, red and blue, flashing lights. Sounds like your average LED Christmas lights? No. But - read the laws of your state.

Having said that, I've done it year after year on the roof of the FJ and now in the bed of the Tacoma.
    No issues at all.

Anyone have a good way to go around the outside of a trifold tonneau? Last year I used some command clips and some thin wire I snaked out- tied to the cleats and out under the tonneau. PITA.

I was thinking of making brackets that I could run out from under the tonneau and attach to the rails in the bed then simply zip tie the light strand to the brackets....

Just use the 3M command stick on hooks. The tape peels off clean when done.

You can probably build a frame that goes over the roof too and anywhere really! Seems cheap, I may do this
