I wouldn't until you see cracks or areas you are concerned about not being protected anymore.

    Sounds familiar:
1- yes, this was a 3 hour adventure end to end

2- I made the investment in gun and wands- glad I did. I couldn't imagine doing this with spray cans

3- yep, got that too. Even with a canvas paint towel down. Hoping the winter will wear it away.
Next time I'll just pull into the yard and do it in the grass

    4-$11 tyvek suit ftw

Nice write up Peter! About to do this real soon to my truck and was wondering about how long did it take you from start to finish! Any any pointers I should know about doing it the first time?

    Thanks,
    Corey!

Threads like this is why I signed up with TW in the first place..
Anyone who takes the time to read the thread should be well versed, and once done can add additional insights.
I thank you and my truck thanks you......

Lol shit. I was hoping it was going to be easier also.

Maybe I'll take my spray cans and go do it in a walmart parking lot.

A 12' tarp is always good to have on hand anyway.
My tarp was not big enough so I did the front half and pulled the truck forward and did the back half, pretty clean this way

One spray can will last like ten minutes, give or take.. Couple that with rolling around all over the damn place youll have at least an hour-and-a-half in it.

20161115_153637.jpg 1 year old, 2nd winter spray applied. no rust
Used 6 cans when they went on sale
    Took about an hour
Jacked up the front end to give more room
    Removed skid plates
Warmed cans in hot water prior to use
Did in driveway no mess but you will get caked in over mist so wear shitty cloths

Today was the first time I've worked on my Tacoma since fluid filming it. This also marks the last year I use fluid film.

I think after winter is over I'll clean it all off and just use it inside the boxed sections of the frame and other places I'll never touch.

If you are going to work on your truck expect gloves, washing all tools when done, and no hand turning any bolts. Everything is sooo slick!!

I know I know. What else would I expect from spraying oil all over everything. But still. It's horrible to work on now. :bananadead:

An oily mess or a rusty mess - your choice.

It's even more fun when you drive on dirt roads and the oil and dirt mix to form a nice black grime that gets on you every time you touch anything under your truck.

It doesnt stay all oily forever. I have found that it keeps all the bolts easy to remove...like the skids ect. Worth it.

Do we need any sort of respirator while putting this stuff on?

I used a simple paint mask and even though I know that doesnt do much I found it kept my throat from burning like when I did it without the mask.

Just read this comment. Did they do IN the frame? If not Id run a few cans of Eastwood Internal Frame Coating in there and leave the dealer stuff alone elsewhere. Eastwood is just very durable paint for the most part and its pretty easy to spray.

I recently sprayed my frame with fluid film for the fist time and the next week we got a decent rain. The frame doesn't look shiny anymore like it did before the rain. Does this stuff wash off with just water or is it still there and the slick appaearance is gone

Spoke to the guys at kellsport, and they said the stuff doesn't come off unless with really high pressure water (several thousand psi, can't remember exact number). I wouldn't expect rain to wash it off.

On a side note, did mine the other day, took 6 cans to decently cover the frame with a good layer of it. Wore a respirator mask, didn't smell it at all until after I took off the mask and started to feel a little burning in the throat. Any exposed part of me, including hair, was covered in it, so be prepared.
